At first it may seem that the Greatest Show is really returning to hunt down that one child who escaped the first time... but. With every chorus they remind you how the protagonist wakes up from a nightmare. The dark carnival is not coming back, it's just him and his demons. The experience gave him a psicological trauma that will never truly leave him alone. The first seconds sound like a broken record player, repeating a distorted version of a once cheerful melody again, again and again...

Now, it may be that it is not trauma, but in fact this fearful fair presenting it's notice. The ringmaster is not back yet, but he is coming. Just, another theory. The backwards music could also just be another homage to the book that the Greatest Show On Earth is based off of, specifically the merry-go-round that plays its calliope backwards when it spins backwards and also turns its occupants younger by a year for every backward turn

@@pandoraslick1922 the music at the beginning of the song sounds like music played in reverse, and the merry-go-round in _Something Wicked This Way Comes_ plays its music backwards when it spins the wrong way. Because the carousel ages its occupants back when it spins backwards, the song could be using this to exemplify how the boy is remembering his traumatic experience from several years ago.

I like to theorize that originally the song was about someone who barely survived "The Greatest Show Unearthed" dealing with the psychological torment of their traumatic memories of that place, finally lured in to going back in reality of their full accord, perhaps this is even how the Greatest Show Unearthed got it's employees/monsters.

The intense PTSD vibes this gives off with the former child, now likely adult, who survived the Greatest Show Unearthed. The music, compared to the first song, is more dissociative, in my opinion. It's slower, it almost sounds like there's a small layer of static over the instruments. The lyrics also back this up, with the survivor having nightmares and being haunted by these memories. The Dark Carnival may or may not be coming back, but it's there in *their mind* and haunting them for the rest of their days. Brilliantly done.

I love love love this! My only critique is that I wish the song was a bit louder and more unrestrained. The vocals are fantastic but I feel like they could have gotten more chaotic, maybe to drive home the narrative that this carnival is far far darker than you could have ever imagined. The whole song just feels a little bit too polished for a circus from Hell. It's still a deliciously creepy song though!

ATTENTION!!! Does anyone else remember the video that use to be up on KZbin featuring this song? I remember it having tons of twisted imagery. Such as houses dancing and face monsters eating cars. With doing some research, I found that a lot of these animations were made by they KZbinr "Cyriak" most famous for making "cows,cows,cows" and "Baaa". I deeply remember this form my child hood. It probably the same age as this song, but I'm in deep help here. If you remember this, reply. And if your have anymore information, please let me know. I just need to find this and have some closer.
