I used to play this for days on end! I remember the tombstones in the garden for your creatures that died, and I would take every new creature there to honor their ancestors lmaoo. I was ~in my feels~ as a child and remember the music there making me cry lol.

(posted the same comment on another creatures video, I don't want to write everything twice) my grandma bought this game for me when I was in primary school. Just like many others I didn't register the weirdness and kind of randomness of the game's content? I had a ton of fun spending hours at the carnival feeding my creatures colored cotton candy, building absurd rollercoasters etc.... I remember the game was quite challenging for me. I knew I could collect these puzzle pieces, but beating the mini games took a lot of tries and sometimes I just didn't put 2 and 2 together, before my norns died of sickness or the ring around their faces would just disappear and i couldnt control them anymore. Many many years later I thought of the game and wanted to give it "closure" by finding all the puzzle pieces. It wasn't difficult, just a bit nonsensical, and the absolute surrealness of it all really hit me! turns out you only get a little parade when you "beat" the game anyways. It was designed for kids to play around a little, it doesn't really have an "end" or anything. Through the game, I was actually introduced to the much bigger history of the Creatures games and the fascinating other titles, which have the same crazy style but far deeper mechanics and an extremely dedicated modding community, so those other games are actually far away from easy. I found a lot of comfort in revisiting it, especially the garden where i used to love planting things. It's a true childhood memory of mine. And it's so Windows XP, everything about it is. The creatures games, even though still played by the fan community, really are a time capsule into a whimsier time of videogames before all the children's gaming content would become these short-gameloop mobile games. I like to imagine the adults that crafted this must have had a lot of fun unleashing their inner children, creating these environments. And maybe even letting their own kids playtest it during development. I find it fascinating and would love some development peeks from back then.

I remember when I played this game as a kid that I accidently took one of my creatures to the moon and I didnt know how to take him back so he was stuck there forever with flu and all

I did the same. I knew how to send them there but didn’t know how to return them home. However I learned sending them there when they were old would prevent them from dying, so I kept the smart ones I liked eternally in space.

I finally tracked down this game after having this weird memory of playing it briefly, only to send my creatures to what I figured was their end by getting them stuck outside and either killing them or having them disappear (might be remembering this wrong, ancient memories here). Needless to say, while the game was supposedly simplified for a younger audience, it certainly was not simple for my juvenile mind.
