It began with the forging of the great Credit Cards - Three types of Card were given to the Fashionistas, fairest, flexiest of all the globetrotters. Seven were given to the Business owners, great traders and visitors of the airport lounges. And nine - nine Cards were given to the proletariat, who above all else desire value. But they were all of them surpassed. In the land of Canada, in the frozen wastes of Mont-Royale, The Prince of Travel Ricky forged a secret Master Credit Card, to control all others. And into this Card he poured his knowledge, his passion, and his will to visit every square inch of the planet. One Credit Card To Rule Them All

You forgot to mention that most Canadian are loyal to their banks. I have switched banks 5 times within a 6 mouth period. My parents lived in Canada for 23 years and always banked with TD and aren't aware that it's the worst bank at the moment. Also most people I meet simply don't care about the whole game.

My youngest sister is definitely an aspirational traveller, she loves the different luxury flights and hotels. As for me, I'm a world traveller, I use my points and miles to go to weird places that people never go to. It was a fun video, Ricky. I can definitely see you being a hybrid of aspirational and world traveller.

Spot on Kendrick -- those stopovers and 24-hour layovers are essential for us world travellers, all while enjoying the journey in some degree of luxury :)

I've done the credit card point collection game, accumulated about 4-5 business class mini-rtw trips over the last 10 years. But I was always a bit conservative and never got to the point of having a dozen cards I was actively doing. And the spending required was always timed with spending I knew I was going to do. These days I'm basically a minimalist, having 1-2 cards I use. Still have a stash of points on the loyalty programs of course but can't use it these days. In my last job I was head of data at transunion, before that worked at aimia, so I understand cards/loyalty/credit space a bit. I think to achieve the level of reward/returns, I'd have to study it like a course and be disciplined enough maintain a rotation of cards. Which I guess I'm not willing to do at this stage in my life/career. I find that I probably get better returns investing in the next income property/stock, and then I can use the income to just pay for the actual flight. free travel on points are definitely sweet though, miss those days.

Such a wealth of knowledge provided here, especially someone like me who is very new, I wasn't even aware of the game a few days ago. Browsing the internet for trying to maximize cash back has led me to your channel. I would say I'm one of the "Cash People"(at least for now), can you go into more detail how someone like myself would convert travel points into cash back, the rates for different reward points?

I’m leaving to travel to Europe for first time, I been trying to decide on a credit card. I read up on ur website. I see Scotiabank passport is recommended for forex but you seem to preach aeroplan. So what is ur number one recommendation in general?

What are you trying to achieve is the real question. Do you want to travel and you need flexibility across various frequent flyer programs? Then you gotta do Amex Membership Rewards cards If you need something to spend in the United States, then either Scotia Amex or get into the US card game If you want cash back, you may need a combination of a couple cards. Ironically, there is in fact no one card to rule them all, though I'd argue the Amex Platinum, in particular the American version, is a baseline "very good offering" for someone who wants to fly the world

Karl Tanner this first time I dropping significant amount of money on trip. I talking going at least 6 countries in Europe in 2 months. I am Canadian so unsure bout how I’d get in on the American credit cards or if I even wanna bother with process of faking that I live in USA. So with this trip I just wanna know how I can get most value back on this trip

@@takanoritoriyama Amex acceptance outside the US is pretty bad, if it's all gonna be foreign spend in other countries on credit card, Scotiabank Passport infinite for no FX fees plus Scotia rewards. You could also roll the dice on the Brim mastercard but I personally dont like their company one bit so would refrain. Up to you

My #1 recommendation would be to move beyond the idea of there being a #1 recommendation - every card has its merits and combining + cycling through multiple cards, based on your personal goals and priorities (as we discussed in this video) is how you play this game to win. To your question, Aeroplan miles are incredibly useful for international travel, especially in premium cabins, whereas the Scotia cards are good for avoiding FX fees, but the points themselves aren't quite as useful. So what's more important to you: saving 2.5% on FX fees, or earning points faster towards your next big international trip? Only you can decide. One approach might be to sign up for a premium Amex card and put your spending towards the minimum spend requirement - the rewards you earn from the signup bonus will far outweigh the FX fees you're paying.
