The put spread is 25%. You’re tying up $400 in collateral and earning $100. That’s 25% in one month.
@Truecrimecommunity5 ай бұрын
But what I would like to know, is win loss % of this option strategy (I realize it’s different for every person) but is there a way to know a market average? I mean $149 to $135 is not a big move in a month, and In order to make money you need to sell a lot of these. So if you ate wrong 1 time , it would take you being right 4 months in a row just to offset that loss. So if you were wrong just 3 times in would take you a full 12 months of winners to offset 3 bad bets. So I'm not sold on this, or I am missing something? I mean it would only take a 5-6% move against the direction you thought it would go based on this example he gave, in order for you to lose your ass. What am I missing?

On a Bull Put spread, what happens if I get assigned the shares but don't have enough money to buy them? Is that when the account will be in the red and why you recommend closing before expiration/assignment? So, with a Bull Put spread, buying the puts won't help if the stock doesn't fall enough for you to put the shares on someone, correct, and, meanwhile, getting assigned all the other shares would cause the devastating debt on the account? Thanks for the video.

You know, Jake, you are really doing unbelievably well and I’m happy for you. Wow, I‘ll never have your type of annual income. I have a feeling that this might not be the most popular observation I’m going to give you but when there’s big money flowing you might want to consider how to retire as early as possible (assuming that you want to retire early) and you might want to consider having a will. I know you might not have someone who is near and dear to your heart but a will can still tell people what your wishes are in the unlikely event you pass away early. Consult an attorney who can guide you better than I can. Ask someone to be the executor, health care proxy and have a living will. Believe it or not, someday you will want to have at least some of your assets in fixed income or a fund of some sort that is linked to fixed income. It can become too risky to have all your money in equities. Think it over. It’s food for thought. 👍👍👍

Very nice. I learned some things. Question. I'm thinking of trading vertical spreads in my Schwab account, and I have to apply for level 2 with margin. First, the "collateral"you mention is dipping into your approved margin? You're borrowing in essence on that margin for the option trade contract period in the amount of the collateral? Does Schwab forgo the margin borrowing if you have enough account balance value (cash and securities), to cover the collateral? I'd love to not have to use margin and "stiff" them on their daily interest, if you know what I mean. But, I'm guessing doesn't work that way? Thank you!
@stuyg863 жыл бұрын
I'm definitely gonna be watching this video again, and watching your options strategy playlist. The collateral on my cash secured puts has a very high opportunity cost right now.

well darn; level 2 requires margin, and I really prefer my cash account. I would have thought collateralized option chains like these, wouldn't require margin. any advice or thoughts?
@JakeBroe3 жыл бұрын
Hey stuart! Margin is nothing to fear. It's a line of credit you don't have to use. But when you trade options (especially spreads), your broker requires it so your account is capable of moving stuff around should you be exercised on. I would just turn on margin if spreads are something you are interested in.

But around thursday, if the price is nearing the strike price, can I just close on this and minimize my losses?

Does Schwab wait for both option order to be accepted before actually following through on both transactions? Like in your first example if your buy to open went through at 1.49, but the 2.27 sell to open price changed while you were on the order screen, what would happen? Do you have to scramble to create a new solo sell to open order to match it, or would the whole thing not go through until the sell to open price came back to 2.27?
@JakeBroe3 жыл бұрын
The order chain defaults to the buyer's bid and the seller's ask. You pay the entire value of the spread to get the contracts. If you are trading on a stock with high volume, you'll have no problem getting the contracts. However, on a lower traded stock, then yes, you might get one leg without the other and have to adjust. I recommend avoiding spreads on stocks with low trading volume.

I had about 2K in cash and up to 4K and change for long and short term options in buying power with margins but the order would’ve only cost $750 when I hit the review order button. What did I miss in your video? How much buying power do I really need, the same as a cash secured put?
@JakeBroe3 жыл бұрын
If it was a credit spread, then YOU would have been paid a credit of $750. The buying power you need is the width of the strikes, but you probably need enough initially to get in and out of the two contracts individually... which with Amazon might be significant.

Yes, the $$ amount risked is high for the $$ premium collected, but the probability of losing is low and gaining is high. Options is a game of probability and weighing risk to reward.

@@JakeBroe By the way I have an option level 1 and yesterday I asked Charles Schwab for the level 2. They sais that I need 6 months with optiond enabled in order to enable level 2.

spreads are not very profitable but they are low risk strategies… Too many stocks are trading sideways… Weekly Short Iron condors are working lovely for me!

Nice! I'll be making a video on the Iron Condor soon!

you also need to look at the probability for each leg of the trade...

Yep! I'm going to do some more examples in future videos and we'll talk more about probabilities on the spread. Cheers!

I have a question; why wouldn’t you get it closer to the expiration date? Is it cause it’s too risky? I’m just trying to understand that if a person knows the stock price isn’t going to go up or down. Why not collect premium every week or so? Instead of allowing for a whole month bounce back essentially?

But what I would like to know, is win loss % of this option strategy (I realize it’s different for every person) but is there a way to know a market average? I mean $149 to $135 is not a huge move in a month, and blue chip stocks have that happen all the time and In order to make money you need to sell a lot of these.

Dis liked due to passive income statement lmao what a joke to try and say credit spreads can be seen as passive income. It’s a trade where you collect a premium to lose more than collected if wrong. Yeah that’s passive lmao 🤡
