I bet even the most hard-core Creed head had to stifle hysterical laughter at that "SEXXXXXXX". Was that first line simply Stapp reacting defensively to his pastor, who had perhaps shamed him for his music being too sexual??

The thing is, I liked Weathered. Mainly because it was my first exposure to Creed...aaand it was the only music that i had on this crappy Zune/iPod ripoff while I was in Texas visiting my Grandpa on his deathbed. It really encouraged me. So, I know it's not great. Weathered isn't really even that good. But I still like it. Call it a guilty pleasure. Also: SECKZ

This was my favorite album in 8th grade. I got it as a gift when I was in the hospital recovering from some very serious surgery. I listen to it almost the entire time I was in the hospital. This was also the same time I saw princess Bride for the first time. Which is also one of my favorite movies. Creed was one of my favorite bands at the time. I get all the criticism around this album. But I still love it. It helped remind me that I can get through tough times. Including being in the hospital.

I'm hungry for some _SEEEEEEEEEEEXXXXXXXXXX..._ Here are my thoughts on Weathered by Creed; 1: I really liked this song, it sounds decent and the music video was "interesting", to say the least. Plus it's a great opener. 2: Like the last song, it's pretty decent. 3: It has a unique intro, having a Native American chant and all that, and the song was actually pretty good. 4: _SEEEEEEEEXXXXXXXX._ But in all seriousness, it's an alright song, all things considered. 5: I actually didn't mind this song, really. Sure, the lyrics feel generic and very melodramatic, but I like some of the guitar work. 6: Meh, it's.....average at best. 7: It's alright. Definitely better than the last song. 8: This song is excellent, perhaps one of the best songs on this album. 9: Huh, this song sounds familiar... Hey, I sang a song once in this key. Oh wait, it was much faster than this. 10: A pretty slow song but not that bad, really. 11: Pretty anticlimactic and boring. Which is disappointing since some of the other songs were pretty decent. In conclusion, I really liked Weathered. Sure, it has a few songs that aren't all that great, but I can get behind all that, since some of them sound pretty decent, in my opinion. Perhaps one of the few albums I legitimately liked from Regretting The Past, so far. Also, *SEEEEEEEXXXXXXXXXXXXXX* God, that never gets old.

I think not many will disagree that Mark Tremonti is an excellent guitarist and songwriter, and even as a singer he is quite good - he sings on key and has a nice low grit to his voice that he uses to his advantage. His material with Creed is admittedly a bit too calculated and generic for mainstream audiences, but he still came out with several nice and musical-sounding riffs here and there (Torn, Ode, Pity For A Dime, Say I, What If, Bullets). Alter Bridge and his solo career really unleashed his true self as an artist and musician.
@brandonhaines1920
@brandonhaines1920 3 жыл бұрын
@@Timliu92 let's not forget that Mark wrote the song "My Own Prison." Stapp took so much credit for writing the song when in fact that it was Mark. Everything Creed back in the 2000s revolved around Stapp and it wasn't until Mark and Flip left is when people started to understand the significance that Mark's song writing ability was much greater. Case in point, Stand Here With Me solo. How many solos were heard in a Creed album? 1 maybe 2??? I think it was at that point where Mark realized that he was being held back.

I was in my senior year of high school when this album dropped. The guy I was dating at the time gave this album to me as a gift. I pretended that I was really excited about it, but I think I listened to it once and then it just sat on my shelf and collected dust. It's even worse than I remember.

I recently listened to this album again and noticed that in Signs, Scott does echo another word like he did with sex. There is a pairs thing happening where he says this is not about 1 thing and then this is not about some other thing where he echoes what he just sung. Probably doesn't make the song any better for you. On further listening I think My Sacrifice is actually about coming back to something he is addicted to, he also makes the whole song sound bitter sweet because he knows this thing he is coming back to isn't good for him. Lots of people personify drugs. (everyone is entitled to their own interpretation. Obviously.)
@Johnzilla2179
@Johnzilla2179 9 жыл бұрын
+hikkeen I actually think he was speaking of the opposite. Given his heavy Christian influence, it sounds as if he was attempting to free himself from drugs by sacrificing them and returning to the light, as it were. That smile on his face in the music video and the generally uplifting tone of the song overall keeps me from interpreting it in a negative or otherwise bittersweet light. Fascinating interpretation, however.

I admit I'm a Creed fan. But before anyone snarks at me about it, please read my entire comment before replying or insulting me. HOWEVER, I AGREE on how bad this particular album STANK. Human Clay was good, and My Own Prison was probably their best album to date. Honestly, the best thing about Weathered was Mark Tremonti's guitar riffs... When he used them. They did break up after this album, and only reunited ONCE to produce Full Circle... Which had maybe two tracks worth listening to in my opinion. Stapp's massive ego affected everything from the song writing to the quality of everything in general after Human Clay. I'm not defending them - it's bad when even a die hard Creed fan like myself can say how bad the quality of this album SUCKS - but I am just pointing out that there were a ton of tensions between the band members at that time, and I'm wondering if the quality of their music suffered because of that. I'm not going to break down which songs I liked and which I hated... Let's just say it sounded more like what Scott Stapp has in his solo work - which I am NOT a huge fan of for the record - and it was missing a lot of what made "My Own Prison" a great album. They got too soft in my mind. Yup, more like *Nickelback*.... Most songs on this album were cringe worthy and a few requires a puke bucket. This isn't what Creed was known for back in the day. "Higher" was an amazing, catchy song at the time of its release (the video was horrendous though). It was different, it was the pinnacle of what made Creed so successful. Weathered should have never been released, not with those cookie cutter songs on it. Creed could do better than that. "My Own Prison" is proof of it. Yeah, and I am a Creed fan. I'm just an oddball in how I can see that their stuff wasn't always great and how it went way, WAY down in quality from Human Clay. If you want quality music from Brian Marshall, Mark Tremonti and Scott "Flip" Phillips, check out Alter Bridge's debut album "One Day Remains".... Or any Alter Bridge album for that matter.

In retrospect, I wouldn't say Creed is even close to the worst post-grunge band I've heard. I mean, sure, they've released some boring and really bad songs, but they've also released more actual good songs than most crappy early 2000s post-grunge bands could ever dream of. Hell, even this album has a couple of them.

I know this was mentioned in the comments on your channel awesome upload, but I feel that it still needs to be pointed out. Creed was in a weird category of being an obviously Christian rock band without being explicitly Christian (this actually makes a lot more of the lyrics make sense if you take that into consideration). Also Weathered came out right after 9/11, which is part of why it sold so well because it was this mix of angry, mournful, and hopeful that most people were feeling at the time (also why "Don't Stop Dancing" was featured on a Thanksgiving halftime show; it just seemed so intuitive that they'd decide to do an up-and-coming song that expressed the public consciousness at the time).
