They also covered Wake Me Up When September Ends which is one of the less inappropriate Green Day songs but certainly fits into the trend of “weirdly depressing for a Kidz Bop album” here because clearly when I think of songs to play for my hypothetical elementary school aged child I think of a song about a man trying to process the grief of his father dying when he was young which the public (incorrectly but still) recontextualized to 9/11. At best yeah there’s some songs you grow up and realize have more mature meanings, but I still think this belongs in a potential part 2 for the “WTF were they thinking?” factor And this is coming from someone who went weirdly viral on the old Kidz Bop site at age 11 or so because that’s what you did when you wanted to make video content but mom didn’t let you have a KZbin account yet

Despite Kidz Bop 2 and 2 going gold Razor and Tie made the recording cheap as possible for maximum profit. So if I have two gold records and they made them cheap as possible...how are my royalties? It included a really bad cover of Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" with Bret Michaels himself on guitar, along with his daughters. But that's not all. They also butchered "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue, "Forever" by KISS, "I Remember You" by Skid Row, and many more. The worst offender, though, is their god-awful cover of "Patience" by Guns N' Roses. Ever notice how recorded "children singing" sound the same in everything? I'm almost certain there's a sound filter that'll make anyone sound that way. So take comfort in the fact that no children ever had to walk into a studio to record this dreck.

A Kidz Bop cover of Lips of an Angel is like getting them to cover "It wasn't me" by Shaggy

The most entertaining thing about Kidz Bop will always be the 2009 where McDonald's was giving out short KB CDs in their Happy Meals and parents got them pulled because they claimed they heard the word "fucking" in their version of "I Don't Want ro Be" by Gavin Degraw.

Even outside of Kidz Bop, having children sing in a song is just a bad idea in general.

I must say the whining sounds more natural coming from 12 year olds rather than full grown adults

I remember seeing the ads for these abominations on tv while watching Saturday morning cartoons with my youngest sibling back in the early 2000's and thinking to myself either "oh jesus! They made another one!?" or "Which set of song's have they butchered now?". Scary thing is that they are still making this schlock to this very day! 😳. Could you imagine if they let these kids sing "Freakers ball" by Dr. Hook and the medicine show? Highly doubtful, though holy crap!

You nailed it with your conclusion. Also, there’s a lot of great artists making kid friendly music that’s legitimately good music, but Kidz Bop and similar trash content is somehow still succeeding.

I would give this all the likes if I could. Kidz Bop is super creepy and horrible. If you are that worried as a parent about what your kid is singing along with, you're in for it when they hit teen years, ugh. I do NOT get the appeal of this garbage. And this list, omg, so horrid! Awesome job at tolerating it enough to compile.

It's not rock, more alt, but a pretty bad one is Ride by Twenty One Pilots, where they have to edit the lyrics to a lot of the second verse because it discusses death and depression. I think the worst edited line is "a song for them, a song for you, a song for everybody in this room" instead of "a bullet for them, a bullet for you, a bullet for everybody in this room".

In my opinion the worse Kidz Bop song has to be their attempt at covering Gangum Style. Despite the song obviously being very lewd they couldn't resist to have kids cover it with how popular it was back in the days, so they just omitted the "sexy lady" part out and just have them go "Hey, Hey lady" like why?! Surprised they didn't make these kids sing Despacito while they were at it

I work at a kid's party rental space right now, and one day we were playing some kidz bop over the speakers. When I heard "Beggin" by Måneskin my heart dropped. I love that song, and they tore all the heart out of it

Oh lord, when Kidz Bop covered "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal"? I couldn't stomach ever listening to Evanescence anymore. Yup, Kidz Bop destroyed Evanescence for me entirely, no joke. Literally the next day, I went and sold my copy of "Fallen" and stopped listening to them cold turkey. I also realized thanks to them that Amy Lee has a whiny voice, and that when the band broke up? They should've stayed broken up.

I can't believe he didn't include Trapt's "Headstrong". Because they definitely covered that too. I'm proud to say my 5 year old daughter loves my music and we sing together in the car to Rise Against "Nowhere Generation" , CCR "Bad Moon Rising", The entire NFG Christmas album, and Strata "Love is Life". No watered down shitty earworms for her... just the good stuff.
