The line that refers to the song title at the end of each chorus is one of the most famous "mis-quoted lyrics" moments in rock and roll. "There's a bad moon on the rise" has been mis-quoted by SO many listeners as "There's a bathroom on the right". The singer John Fogerty continues the myth, jokingly. He pretty much sings the bathroom line at least once during the song when he plays it live!

Whenever I hear this song, I think of a time, back in the 80's, and I was at the Tampa Fair. We came across a booth that had a TV screen showing VCR videos of people lip-singing. Turned out, you could pay to pick a song and go inside to record you and anyone with you, lip singing. They had some props, like a small drum set, guitars with no strings, etc. Well, we got to talking to a man and his family about, wouldn't it be fun to do that. So me, my boyfriend, Steve and the father's 3 boys, aged 11 to 16, picked this song. Steve bought, from a nearby booth, some cheap sunglasses for each of us to wear and in we went. When we came out, 2 copies of the taped video in hand, our performance was playing on the TV. It drew quite a crowd, with a great round of applause. Memorable moment, lol. Of course now, everyone takes videos of themselves singing and post them for the world to see.

The dichotomy between the funky groove of the melody and the lyrics creates this sort of surrealistic feeling, it fits perfectly in, for example, movie scenes when something dark is happening, but you want a certain lightheartedness at the same time.

Songs like this prove that a band doesn't need distorted guitars or screaming to be heavy. It's the density of the music. This song hits me right in the chest whenever I blast it. Look at Miles Davis, look at Johnny Cash. They also exemplify my notion.

My favorite song. Always plays on the radio when I want to hear it. Dumb luck. I died last August, doctors brought me back after 6 minutes. It's weird knowing I was dead and gone from this world for a little while. I didn't even know I died. I remember telling a nurse that I thought I was going to pass out. She said she handed me paperwork to transfer me to another hospital and I looked at her and said I don't think I'll be needing that. She said I passed out and died. Alone in the hospital on life support for two months. Remember a nurse mixing my medicine and using the purple container on the wall. When I was finally able to communicate I asked about the purple container why the nurses only used the pink solution to mix my medicine but one nurse used the purple one. He asked did a nurse mix my medicine with the purple container contents. I said yeah. He said that was poison. Remember a nurse saying I was going to go to hell. I was unconscious but I was fading in and out I just couldn't get anyone's attention. I had my arms tied down to prevent me from moving. I was on life support and I had open heart surgery and my chest was cut open and moving would make it heal wrong. And I couldn't speak either. Even after I woke up to where doctors noticed I couldn't talk for another three weeks. For two weeks I was unable to move. I'm glad I survived just so I can hear good music , talk with friends and see pretty scenery. I no longer feel like me, after coming back this world seems different. Nothing tastes good anymore. I have a sense that nothing in the world matters. I know life is precious, it should be enjoyed as much as possible. Money, power, religion none of that stuff matters. When you go you just take yourself and nothing else. I still love bad Moon rising I'm just thankful I got to hear it again.
