This is one of the best versions of this song. CCR has always been one of my favorites. John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. They don't have a bad song! Huge list of hits! "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Proud Mary", "Fortunate Son", "Down On The Corner", "Green River", "The Midnight Special", "Susie Q", "Born On The Bayou", "Travelin' Band", "Run Through The Jungle", "Sweet Hitchhiker", "Bad Moon Rising" etc.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins wrote this song and recorded it first. His version isn't as good musically as the CCR version, but the performance is entertaining because he comes across as completely unhinged. Nina Simone also did a good version. If you've never heard of Creedence Clearwater Revival until now, you have some great discoveries ahead of you. Some of their best songs are Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Green River, Down on the Corner, Fortunate Son, Who'll Stop the Rain, Up Around the Bend, Run Through the Jungle, Lookin' Out My Back Door, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Born on the Bayou, Lodi, Cotton Fields, and The Midnight Special. Three of the four members of CCR went to the same high school that I did, though they graduated several years before I got there. We Three Kings by The Roches and Jingle Bells by John Fahey are a couple of my favorite Christmas songs. Both are available on KZbin.

Starting around 1965 through to 1979, you'll find about a hundred rock/pop/blues bands that were great and put out some timeless music! I wish you well on your musical journey of discovery and reactions! As someone who grew up during those days; it is heartwarming and a joy to see younger people like yourself now looking back to these bygone eras and uncovering these old gems of yesteryear! A part of the culture as a teenager in the seventies was to gather around with friends and share in listening to the great music of those times. Watching your reactions to the music of my youth puts a smile on my face and makes me feel young again! Thank you!

Now you're getting into my genre of music that I love so much. It's awesome to watch someone else hear this music for the 1st time and enjoy it. Never gets old! They released this album in 1968. The video you just watched was the studio version of this song dubbed with their live performance at Woodstock, the original Woodstock Festival. They got on stage like 12:30am after midnight. Much more referred to as just Creedence or CCR in the day. Such a classic band with the fabulous John Fogerty as lead guitarist and lead singer. No voice is more recognizable. Powerful!!! As a life long (77 now) Bay Area rock addict they were just one of so many bands formed here in the 60's. Some of them could have been seen in their infancies playing at the iconic Frenchy's (RIP) on Mission Blvd. in Hayward in the late 60's thru the 70's as well as, naturally, San Francisco's Filmore West and Avalon Ballroom once they were more established. What memories.

Amazing to find someone that hasn't heard of CCR before. They had the highest slugging percentage of any band, and it's not really close. Song after song is a straight up bullseye. You're right that CCR was very soulful, and Fogerty's voice helps a lot with that. If you like their jam band capabilities, react to the live version of "Suzie Q" that's on the 40th anniversary edition of their debut album. Or the epic 11-minute "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." You won't be disappointed.

" "Susie Q" is a song by musician Dale Hawkins[4] recorded late in the rockabilly era in 1957. He wrote it with bandmate Robert Chaisson, but when released, Stan Lewis, the owner of Jewel/Paula Records and whose daughter Susan was the inspiration for the song, and Eleanor Broadwater, the wife of Nashville DJ Gene Nobles, were credited as co-writers to give them shares of the royalties.
