Vietnam war. So sad. Glad you guys didn't have to go through the utter disrespect these soldiers went through when they came home😥.

I don't want to put a damper on your enthusiasm, but if you listen closely to the words of this song, you'd find out that this particular CCR song is about the horrific fear the men fighting in Vietnam were under, while moving through those jungles, and watching for the "devil-vietcon" who were sneaking and on the move trying to kill their asses. No fear can be worse or matched on earth today or yesterday that will ever be comparable for what these young men faced every day and night! Doing everything they were taught was nothing to what the actual reality was when they set foot on the soil of this unimaginable place called HELL. FEAR STRUCK INSTANTLY, AND THE REALIZATION HIT THEM AS HARD AS THE BULLETS THEY'D BE DODGING THE MOMENT THEY ARRIVED. MANY WOULD DIE THEIR FIRST DAY THERE, AND FOR THOSE WHO DID MANAGE TO STAY ALIVE & SURVIVED THE NIGHTMARES WOULD PLAGUE THEM LONG AFTER RETURNING BACK HOME, MANY CAME BACK BODIES MAIMED, MINDS SHATTERED, AND THE COUNTRY THEY KNEW AND LOVED & CALLED HOME DESPISED THEM AND CALLED OUT TO THEM-SCREAMING BABY KILLERS! No, this isn't a song of happiness and riding Harley's. It's a clear reminder of those whose lives were forever changed. Fighting and dying for a cause of political power and being in a war we had no right to be in!! Devastating 😢

One could interpret it that way, but if you listen to interviews with Fogerty, he said wasn't thinking explicitly of Vietnam when he wrote the song.

@@NigelIncubatorJones after I read your comment I then had to look this up - LOL Your right Songfacts®: "This is often believed to be about the Vietnam War, as it referred to a "jungle" and was released in 1970. The fact that previous CCR songs such as "Who'll Stop the Rain?" and "Fortunate Son" were protests of the Vietnam War added to this theory. In response, John Fogerty said: "I think a lot of people thought that because of the times, but I was talking about America and the proliferation of guns, registered and otherwise. I'm a hunter and I'm not antigun, but I just thought that people were so gun-happy - and there were so many guns uncontrolled that it really was dangerous, and it's even worse now. It's interesting that it has taken 20-odd years to get a movement on that position."

Man I was too young for the Vietnam War but had a parent in it & a stepparent at Kent State when the Ohio National Guard shot dead students, I grew up hearing the Vietnam War protest music, this song sounds like it should have a huey helicopter wop wop sound in the background, it's like watching the jungle through the helicopter blades, watching waiting

I'm going to ask for a personal song reaction. Cody Mabe - What He Had To Do. For all our Vietnam Vets and the ones that never made it home and for the ones that made it jome but were never the same. The last one was my dad. He made it home but was never the same man that went over as a kid.

The Jungle is the feeling John had walking around in the US, and all the guns that been around (200 million in 1970) carried by the people. He must have seen the future of the US......somehow.....

A young australian, very exparienced rider, came around a corner, hit water and slid right under a truck. The End. If it happened to him it can happen to anybody. You take on a temporary citizen status, if you buy a bike. If you drive a car like a total fool you are the same. A temporary American, or a temporary resident of whichever country you live in. Do you really want to make your momma cry over you, for the rest of her life? In aus we have ag bikes, with 4 wwheels, they kill folk all the time too
