Decided to just drive around and find fish by stopping along the road and fishing whatever I come across. This was my second day on my south Florida trip and I was just trying to explore and see what I might come across. Didn't take long to find some fish.

Always a treat to see you explore that area. I've always wanted to go. The everglades is actually an ancient river so it's always draining, despite how much it has changed since our arrival. It's spring fed from the Avon Park area. Since the region is so flat, the "river" system is much more broad than it is deep, making it more like a swamp/marsh with current, miles wide.

I recognize that area, I suggested it to you in a prior year video, don’t know if you saw my post or not about it. Anyway glad you checked the area out. Get out by night or the mosquitos will suck you dry. About 20 minutes after sunset the sky starts humming. Those Oscars are great tasting fish, nice firm white meat. There is an area you pass by that routinely holds 10+lb Large Mouths, I’m not ready to spill that secret online.

Hey John, for a good spot in the glades,I've gone to pond A1 that Roland martin fishes.it has a few mile long road w both sides fish able, no trailers allowed ,and a turnaround at the end. It was rocky at that end w pebble tanic water lots of bass... other end is all grass, and islands, killer habitat, and mega fish. I could see 20 bass up 5lbers all cruising in parades of 3 to 4 wolf packs. I stood up and they all seen me and sketched out. I go down by Belle glade, and cut over to the ponds down there.need a kayak to get beep back in there. I have a small jon boat I explored it with. Good luck Bro! Great video 💥🤙

If you are down south part of Florida Dade and Broward County, they have peacock bass. Great fight in them.

Driving out 41 at 20 mile bend you’ll see flood gates that are open with constant flow. Tossing a worm and letting it go underneath the gate will insure a 5-7 lb large mouth. Stand there for hours just reeling them in. Good way to spend an afternoon.

You had to be in the general area, if you wanted to drive 30 miles west to the finger canals you’d have to deal with snook….ha ha that’s an experience, fish on the side of the road fighting a 10 pound snook on light gear oh boy. Having been in Miami since ‘66 you find the little spots. My kids used to laugh at me, if I found 3ft of water I was casting….you see my avatar , but in the back is a collapsible light weight rig ready to go. Carry a lure for peacock, bass and Oscar’s at all times. I’ve been known to get caught in bumper to bumper traffic on the expressway, pull over and throw into a canal. It’s an illness, I see water I see fish.

Today is Christmas day 2023. I started keeping track a year ago of how many days I fished this year and it came out right on 311. It really is a blessing living in central Florida and being able to fish this many days a year weather if its stopping on the way to or from work and taking 20 cast with the baitcaster or taking a few days off and heading over to the Gulf for some snook fishing.

Born and raised Oregonian, I was in Florida for a week in 1990, rented a Pontiac LeMans, little red turd box of a car, I drove all over central southern Florida. Saw schools of Oscars along the Tamiami road, which was pretty much a crushed coral path at that time. Caught snakes, turtles, fish, wrastled a gator in the middle of the night, watched a pure jet black Bobcat climb a tree, those memories are gold to me.

Awesome, John! Didn't catch the barracuda yesterday, but we caught about 10 snapper and one huge one at about 10 lbs, just under a bridge in the FL Keys. I live in Chattanooga but I'm down here also all the time visiting family, if you ever wanna try saltwater in the Keys would love to take you. PS you inspired me to start me own channel just for fun. Wish the conservation officers and wardens here in Ontario we're as chill. All the older ones threaten to ticket you for bs and blah blah. I paid for my license follow the laws and regs and still get harassed beyond belief can't believe I pay to be harassed. I love your show but I truly wish everyone that caught a non native species would not release them!! If everyone removed everything they caught there might be a good bass fishing again!!!! When I was growing up Florida was the number one trophy bass destination!!! I was catching bass over 10 pounds when I was 8!!! Now you are lucky to catch one over 5!!!!

But I always wondered what kind of fish I would catch in area also I was stalked by a good size gator one time when I was pulled over and walked along the road one time. One of the local fishermen pointed out to showed me the big gator was following me for awhile and I didn’t even notice. That was a scary moment.
