My best small mouth bass was caught on the Hocking’s river in south east Ohio, it was 23 inches long and 5-1/4” pounds. I have chased a bigger one ever since with no luck. I would rather fish creeks and small rivers over any other body of water. Please keep up the great videos.

Been loving content from both of ya. been using bfs (jdm only) for going on 20 years. Just caught a 17" smally with a borrow bug on a bfs setup in less than a foot of water. Setup was 8lb fc (thin diameter) on a 22 alldy and 6'6" dobyns finesse rod. Favorite all time bfs combo by the way. 1/16th ball head no hook keeper, glued on. orange head ranch hand. This in my opinion is what bfs is really meant for. throwing smaller baits with higher test line than ul. i couldn't cast that lure as far or as accurate with as much entry control with spinning and 8lb line. period. Switched to a 2.5" finesse tube and ripped another couple 15 16s out of a shallow mid stream section. just about every fish i caught had been caught recently. bfs for the win...lol I normally have 6lb fc after spring time because of clear water in my area. practicality and use cases aside bfs is just fun. i prefer playing a fish to just crankn em in. bait caster allows more control than spinning when fighting lsrger fish on lighter lines. then there's line twist which is a pain especially when slack line small jig fishing with spinning tackle. You guys need to try a good jdm bfs reel with a matched rod. id suggest the 16 shimano alldy. its less finicky and more versatile than just about anything past or present. right rod will allow a large lure weight range. 2 grams or less all the way to 3/8ths or even a lil more. Another thing for me is my hands has taken a beating over the years so the form factor of bfs dont cause discomfort like spinning setup. I even have a couple conquest bfs setups to change up to relieve my hands further. i use to have cysts in my wrist. they have went away but still get some discomfort after long fishing days.

I'm looking forward to trying out whopper plopper topwater action for the 1st time this summer!!! Going to my cousins ponds in Georgia which should be exciting

At my ol swimming hole again. Good o Dayton. They are smallmouth in that stream. Not alot anymore. The floods and changes in the last 45 years. That bridge in town used to be 4 to 6 feet deep before they changed the flow. Hate it. It was loaded with smallies then.

I'm going to be camping on lake hiwasse just inside the north Carolina state line from tennessee the third week of June. We fish the lake but what I'm really interested in is wade fishing some rivers or creeks for small mouth. I live in south Mississippi where we have several species of bass but not smallies. That's what I'm looking for. Would you mind recommending somewhere close to where I'll be camping to have a good chance of catching some? Been a subscriber of your channel for a few years and really enjoy your content. Help a brother out😊

That would like a great idea just because some people just starting in to fishing or new at fishing for pan fishing and just don't know what to get or not sure what would be best for it you can use just about any type of rod and reel but knowing what works best is helpful

i hadnt fished in 10 years, went to my local walmart , bought a cheap spinrod combo, some small hooks, splitshot, and a few bobbers and a box of live worms. I had a blast at the creek down below my apt . Ive caught a ton of bluegills and a small channel cat a few days ago

Great review. That's definitely not the issue with this video. I guess it's just a general broad statement. I don't know why an amount of people bash any baits.. personally, I feel like all bates are subjective. It works for some it works for others. Doesn't necessarily mean they work all the time. Fish are finicky. Why do they even go after plastic to begin with? It really shouldn't come down to the bait. It comes down to the angler and what he/she knows what to do with it/any [bait]

Don't like the shorts. Watch them sometimes, but not too often. Usually not too good in quality content. Seem to be mostly "Click Bait."

You hit the BFS nail on the head. If you fish for hours with a bunch of lures between 1/8 and 1/4oz then a BFS reel with good braid is a God-send. It is by far my favorite lake kayak setup. Creek or trout fishing with lures at 1/16 and under - and probably only one rod available - is not what BFS is for and it's a giant pain trying to make it work reliably. Side note: Shorts are like an ultralight video, and YT is the baitcaster of platforms. Instagram if you feel the need - but I'm sticking with the long format content either way.

In my experience Spring large mouth will be holding, feeding along the shoreline. They move back to cover, structure and deeper water after the spawn. However, a fish on every cast! Awesome!!
