this is my second video essay exploring why i believe 2017’s creep 2 to be a perfect sequel. footage shown: creep (2014) creep 2 (2017) hot fuzz (2007) star wars: the phantom menace (1999)

I really loved the dynamic between Josef and the girl. It’s definitley not a typical serial killer movie and i love it so much better than the first one.

The ending single handedly made the whole movie 10x scarier

What I love is that we still don't know who the hell "Josef" or "Aaron" really is. First he says Josef, then Bill at the end of Creep 1, and now Aaron - which leads me to guess that those are three of his previous victims - the third one we know for a fact. Even the cabins/houses that "Aaron" supposedly lives at are likely those of his victims. In that gravedigging video sent to the tall videographer Aaron, those bags "Josef" is burying could contain the real Josef or another one of his victims.

Legit one of the best horror films of all time and also one of the best comedies of all time.

It was a great movie, but they didn’t break away from the old school format of horror films when Sarah decided to run off after smacking Josef/Aaron in the back of the head with a shovel instead of hitting him more times until he is dead. Also, what’s up with Josef’s sister?? She knew him as her brother “Josef”. She called on the phone and was never heard from in the movie again. I feel like that may be a smooth prequel setup. She obviously isn’t the killer’s sister and since the killer took on Aaron’s name, it cld be possible she was the sister of a victim of the killer’s. It wld explain her calling him Josef (She doesn’t know her brother Josef is dead). I think that wld be a great road to connect in with the franchise. I really think Duplas cld take this character and future films into 80 different directions. I don’t think (I cld be wrong) I’ve been this impressed with a low budget horror film since “Insidious”. Nice breakdown 👍

why is she not his sister? can you give me an explain.
@quotemenot70004 жыл бұрын
Felix Phạm I cant remember now exactly why I was convinced that she wasn’t his sister. I remember she asked for Josef when she called and since he used a fake name in the sequel, maybe I’m assuming Josef was a fake name as well. Meaning, she isn’t the Creep’s sister. I’d like to go back and look at the end of the movie where we see the CDs of his killings that he had in the closet and see if one of them is labeled “Josef”. I don’t think this explanation represents 100% of why my original thought was that she isn’t the Creep’s sister, but it’s probably pretty close. I hope this helps 🙂

Really surprised not many people have talked about this movie, I went into it wondering how they’re going to be able to keep the suspense growing since we already knew who the killer is, but I wasn’t disappointed with how it all played out

I agree this movie is one of the best sequels (and films?) ever made and surpasses the original, but I have to respectfully disagree about the ending being earned - it struck me as cheap, clichéd, and unrealistic. Unrealistic: no one survives getting hit that hard on the head with a shovel, not to mention on top of multiple stab wounds. And part of the joy and horror of this film is how grounded in reality it seems. Aaron isn't Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger. Cheap: it just seems tacked on to promise a sequel, like the filmakers went "oh no, we killed off the villain, how will we make more films? I know, let's just have him magically survive, somehow." Clichéd: It's literally the ending of Hallowe'en. And every other horror film - hundreds if not thousands - where you think the horror has been defeated, only for an ending scene to tack on a "nope." I think there's far more interesting and scary endings that could have focused on the effects the experience had on Sara. Did she kind of enjoy killing Aaron, for example. What part of him lives on in her?

I vividly remember the sequel dropping a trailer for Creep 2 and it being announced that it's coming out in a day or two. Its now been several years and I'm still, actively, searching for when the 3rd (and supposedly final) Creep movie will release.

ey thank you! yeah his performance has so many layers to it. Seeing him in other films just feels unnatural no matter how great of a performance he's giving. in patrick bryce's twitter bio it says a third one is in the works but i've got no clue when that'd be released, fingers crossed soon because these are so good!

@@jacobsaul totally! just watched "safety not guaranteed" and it almost felt like a prequel to these movies. kinda like mark hamill will always be known as luke skywalker or viggo mortensen as aragorn, seeing them in any other roles feels weird to me haha

One point I like about the ending is that, realistically, Josef/Aaron probbaly didn't kill Sara on the subway. There'd be too many people that could get in the way just by being there or actively stop him before he could, most likely. This would also go against his pattern of isolating his victims. Plus, he makes himself apparent to Sara instead of surprising her with a straight attack by giving her the familiar whistle and letting her see and focus on him. Thirdly, I don't think he would even want to kill her here, or at least not yet. She was and may still be his muse, 'His Coppola' as he said himself. She inspires him, and she's special in a different way than the original tall Aaron not because she's very kind or very trusting but because, I think most prominently, her willingness that she had to be intimate with Josef/Aaron in all of the situations shown in Creep 2 and the essence of reality in terms of who she and who Josef/Aaron really are as people which seems like a big portion of that inspirational element she brings out in Josef/Aaron. It makes me wonder instead what happened after that cut, what could have happened. Maybe a fight, sure, but maybe Sara would have been forced to talk to him in that confined space where neither can immediately leave whether she wants to or not. Maybe he stalks her further after this, maybe he gets arrested, maybe they retain a wary connection built through this strange encounter they had. There's a lot of possibilities. I really like Sara and Josef/Aaron and their interactions/connection that was built over just a day or two. The ending is a lot more interesting to me than just; 'Oh, he killed her' or something of that nature.

I personally found the sequel boring, I admit as a contextual set piece for possibly another movie I give credit for. The story how this woman manipulated her way into revitalizing a serial killer, when she could've just been the one to end it. I just dunno found it to be boring, it felt waaaay slower to me I even fell asleep. So if they do another movie will it be Creep 3 Aaron takes Manhattan?

Got to disagree with you. His character was a lot less creepy because 1) they portrayed him as having a mid-life crisis and not being passionate about killing anymore. And this is after the fact that we know he isn't just a lonely guy. So that deflates the tension somewhat. 2) the main protagonist in this, the youtuber, doesn't do a good job of showing her fear. Like she's acting a little too badass to the point where you lose any sort of fear yourself. Those two things make this a sequel doesn't come close to the first movie.
