Nope, it sounds that way to me, too. I mean, it's not particularly happy either way, but this is a bit diminished.

It does sound more relaxed. That's because it isn't as emotionally manipulative as the original, which dances in major and minor with the vocals in a less direct way than this version.

The original was more or less sarcastic. I.e "You're SO fucking special" This one sounds sincere. Like Thom legitimately misses someone.

I feel like the original is more bitter/jealous than it is sarcastic

This is just a censored version though, the known version says “very” on censored versions. I get the feeling THIS is the original version, but they prob changed it cos it sounds way too depressing in minor key

It almost takes a little bit of a sinister turn in minor key. I kinda love it.

I don't know how to describe, this version does not sound exactly darker, but more "hipster/indie". The dissonance with the major key gives more emotion.
@vanilla_labelle4 жыл бұрын
exactly, the major feels more like faux punk indie. this one sounds like a garage band of suburban dads

@BiancaPodaru7 жыл бұрын
Tabitha Harrington Yep! It gives more emotion, as it doesn't sound flat.
@PBL1876 жыл бұрын
Bianca Podaru As opposed to watching them perform the usual version live? (There's one vid in particular, see below) But that aside, it is rather good in minor :)
The first song was supposed to be sarcastic and dissonant.

The reason it sounds happier is cuz it's a sad song that sounds sad. That's to be expected.but to hear such sad lyrics to such a happy beat,kinda makes you go like "whoa I feel pity" does that make sense?

How do these words actually sound better with a major key!? Shows how good Radiohead are. Thanks for the vid.
@nidhikih24517 жыл бұрын
Actually the original song doesn't follow the G major scale everytime, for example, the second and the fourth chords on its harmony, B major and C minor, don't belong to the scale of the song, as both have the note Eb, I mean, the song may have a determined key, but actually it also plays notes of the G minor scale (For example, Eb), and that makes it even more depressing than a song that just following a determined scale all the time
@ILikeVideos627 жыл бұрын
It's a D sharp on the B major chord (which is the dominant key of the relative minoe E minor), then a Eb for the C minor (a flattened 6th). It sounds depressing no matter what xD

This actually sounds more major than the original...
@manuel88879 жыл бұрын
No, it's in G major, it's just that it uses a lot of modal exchange chords (please correct me if I'm wrong on the terminology here, English is my second language), which is using chords from the parallel key, in this case being a song in G major that uses some chords used in the key of G minor.
@bromixsr9 жыл бұрын
Wrong.
@MaggaraMarine8 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it sounds more "major" than the original. But it sounds less depressing, more relaxed or something. And yeah, the original is G major B major C major C minor. B major is actually the dominant of the relative minor (E minor). C minor is from G minor.
@lf81986 жыл бұрын
Major doesn't mean happy. It means a key that doesn't rely on flats or sharps in C major. All the songs that make me cry are in major keys.
@katiecresonify9 жыл бұрын
I have loved this song ever since it first came out. Upon listening to this version, I'm surprised to say that I actually enjoyed it. Personally, I feel the music backs up the lyrics of this particular tune (as opposed to the instruments carrying, or making up for weak lyrics) so it was interesting for me to hear it altered to minor...like it sounded more like what he is singing about. But then again, the original will always be my first love.

This is apparently one of those songs where, if recorded in the original major key or in this minor, the result would have been the same: an awesome song.
@StormBurnX10 жыл бұрын
Melodyne, as far as I know. If you can get the stems for a song, that's best, but if not, you can still do it all with one program. Melodyne takes any audio you feed into it and separates it into small pieces, where each piece is one note, then you can drag them around to re-arrange them, thus shifting the pitch of individual notes.
