As soon as the operator gets the call and know where the person is they send the police. They ask all these questions just to keep the person on the phone while the police gets there. It's also very important to make sure they have as many details they can get and they have to reassure them so they keep their calm.

this was a really good video. do more of this weird stuff i love it. as for the operators asking questions they do that to locate the emergency. as well as obtaining information. They are required to stay calm and ask the caller to remain calm. It's just procedure. I know it doesn't really make sense because in situations like that anyone is tense and in panic mode but it's the protocol they have.

I work for the Ambulance service in UK as a call handler. In both calm and stressful situations we get callers saying "what's with all the questions? Just send the fxcking ambulance" or "can you just hurry up please" or they sometimes tell the ambulance to get there and hang up without giving us information. The reason the questions are asked are because we are not there, the people calling are our eyes so we get a visual through them. Also the questions are asked so we can give the most appropriate instructions on how to help the patient while an ambulance is on the way, say for example somebody has gone in to cardiac arrest , we ask a few questions to gather exactly what happened and then get straight in to CPR until the ambulance arrives. I always like to remind the person calling that an ambulance is on the way as i am talking to them for example i say "i'm going to ask you a series of questions, it doesn't delay the help in getting to you" this immediately gets them to calm down and focus on the patient, i have had to remind the caller that i am not driving the ambulance looool Finally in regards to the timing of an ambulance/police arriving, some takee 10 minutes some take 3 minutes to arrive, it's all about the nearest available. Sometimes if the aren't enough resources close by they have to pull one from far away and send it, which is why it may feel like a lifetime, which again is why we ask the questions and give instructions on how to help the patient while the crew are coming. Hope this helped give you a bit of an insight :) It may seem like an easy job but is is far from it, we do receive a lot of abuse over the phone, and it isn't easy for us when we are doing CPR over the phone we just want to jump right in and help. The amount of calls i have taken where i have to stay calm and break down the minute i hang up

Liked the video broski but, I think you may have the wrong impression of The Operators roll. Video #3 you said, you just going to let the old lady die. When someone calls 911, their name along with location, automatically comes across the operators monitor. First the operator starts attempting to retrieve as much of the visual as possible, so the arriving cop can take the appropriate measures, to keep everyone safe as possible when they arrive. Simultaneously, someone else is already reaching out to a police unit, sending them to that location. A lot of the time, it's relayed to the police unit, in real-time so what the operator is hearing the police officer does as well.. The only reason for all of the questions, and I agree, they do seem irrelevant, an not beneficial to the current circumstances but, there is a unique reason for doing so. The operator not only relays the information to the dispatched officers but, they also try to start claiming the person down and Comfort the caller. When somebody is experiencing something tragic like abuse or murder, they are filled with so many different emotions, they start to hyper-focus on the situation, as they should. The operator asking seemingly irrelevant questions, tends to distract the mind off of the situation, on to something else such as, what were they wearing, who was it that got hurt, little things like that. There is no way to wipe away what just happened in front of somebody nor should the operator be trying to do that. Their primary focus after dispatching units to location is to, calm the person down. A lot of times, that is impossible but, with that goal in mind, there is truly only one way to do it and it is to try and change the thought process, just a little bit. Even if it's on the same topic, the persons not solely thinking about the one crime or tragedy they just witnessed. In certain circumstances this is why we see operators staying on the phone even after, units arrive on scene.I do agree though, it seems irrelevant and stupid to ask somebody who just witnessed a murder, what color a shirt is but, it really helps. Truthfully, I don't think 911 operator get the praise they should for such a hard job. Like you said at the beginning of the video about, how you were starting to get mad and frustrated just by hearing the calls. Now imagine doing that first-hand 8+ hours a day while simultaneously, trying to help, claim down the people calling you. The continuous calls about, the most horrific crimes that happens in our society, can be stressful.The hard part thought is, going home at the end of the shift and trying not to let work life interfere with personal life. it's almost impossible. I realize everything I just said is based on my interpretation and nothing you were implying. it's definitely thinking too much about the inner workings of the videos your reacting to, when that's not the point of your videos. I just wanted to point that out for all of the men and women that are cops and operators who, day in and day out, go through some of the most egregious acts possible. Anyway gr8 video broski. Just wanted to honor our people's hard work and dedication to helping and saving as many of our people as possible by adding what little bit of behind the scenes knowledge I have.

I believe that they have to ask a series of questions to let the officers going out to the scene be aware with what they are about to encounter and they also have to follow up with a police report so this is why there is so many things being asked. Sometimes I wish they didn't have to ask that many questions but that's apart of their job.
@yahayra76797 жыл бұрын
Usually the operator asks those questions so that they can keep contact with the person in distress. To keep them calm and so that they know what's going on.

The reason why they ask questions is to inform the police officers that are going to stop the incident so that they know how to asses the situation, like if the guy has a gun, they need to know so that they can tell the officers to proceed with caution and know he has a gun

Have y'all ever watched "The Call" I feel like they just need to try and keep them on the phone (make sure they're okay) and get as much information as possible. Try to keep them calm... the longer they talk the more information is being remembered and told kinda like proof of what happened so there won't be many questions as to what happened, how, and when.

i was with someone who was shot and was bleeding out, the first time i called i swear that after 3 minutes of ringing NO ONE ANSWERED i had to hmg up and call again and when they answered the second time they told me to calm down, never answered why no one answered before and just to top it off the cops showed up 10 minutes before the ambulance, sometimes i wonder if they came sooner would he still be alive.
@rabbatulbait41847 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear of your loss 😢 From my experience, the reason why you probably didn't get through the first time is because sometimes there are sooo many people calling and not enough operators to answer so the calls start building up and ending up in a queue and we have no idea what kind of call is waiting until we actually answer it. And also again from experience, in a situation like a shooting, the police show up first to make sure the scene is safe for the ambulance crews to show up, say if the shooter returns and the ambulance is there and not the police they could be harmed, the police are trained to deal with the situation of the shooter returning, so usually the ambulance waits nearby around the corner or something for the go ahead from police. I know this won't bring back the person you lost or take away the pain of losing them. Again sorry for your loss x

I feel like people with these high intensity jobs (911 operator, ER, police, etc.) get so used to the traumatizing things that they encounter everyday, after a while they stop caring as much as they used to (maybe when they first got the job) because all that killing and pain becomes a normal thing to them so they aren't as ...sympathetic? ..and so it makes it seem like they don't care, which some don't.
