about lilligant: if the flower wilts away because it has found a mate, that means the flower is a sexual display and is no longer necessary. think of it like a peacock's big beautiful tail, except now the peacock's feathers fall off when it finds a mate. cus it doesn't need them anymore! there's no reason to put so much of its energy and resources into that flower! lilligant isn't ruined or sad, she's probably healthier now that she doesn't have that thing to maintain!

The wild drifloon uses minimize. Confused, the child lets go. He watches sadly as the drifloon floats away from him. Somehow, the drifloon seems angry, but how can a ballon be angry? Up in the sky, the drifloon grumbles about its lost opportunity. "Stupid, fat and heavy children. Where are its parents? Trainers too busy off trying to do Arceus knows what, can't keep an eye on how much food their young are eating. And why was only one kid their anyway? I almost wonder if the reason the entries in Alola are so... quirky (?) is because Pokemon has been for the first time really competing with another mon game (ie: Yo-kai Watch) and since said franchise is kinda infamous for being kinda quirky they felt the need to make more odd choices for the designs of the monsters, pokedex entries and even gameplay elements (like the whole laying on beds thing). The alt. explanation I've heard people say that's kinda in in universe explanation is the rotom in your dex is actually writing the entries and much as you'd expect from a ghost Pokemon they ended up somewhat more morbid than usual.

Yo-kai Watch is a video game franchise in the same kinda niche as Pokemon (ie: you battle and befriend monsters). Its not well known internationally but its actually a super popular series of games in Japan. YW in part took off because it was funny when compared to Pokemon so it leads me to think Game Freak decided to make Pokemon a funnier game to make sure it would have that market too.

though i like the pun, i think if pokemon had any logic ( hah) to it about how some of these more reasonable creatures exist and procreate it would be more likely that it wilts because it simply doesn't need it anymore. You see with certain birds, parrots mostly that i know of, that mate for like - the males in this case are usually the showy ones but once they have a mate they often stop grooming themselves as much as they did and their colorful feathers fade a little. they become less appealing over all in aesthetics but it's not a direct correlation to health it's simply that it served its purpose.

The "Alolan" region is certainly strange, but I belive it is probably so weird because of certain places on Earth are so superstitious. Hawaii's culture has a lot of superstitions and ect. Yeah... Certain Pokémon must be a HUUUUGE responsibility. You would have to make sure your Gengar never got too bored. You would have to give your dark Pokémon an outlet and let them be evil for a while to keep them controllable. All your fire Pokémon would require expensive insulated rooms, same for electric Pokémon. Don't get me started on dragons. And imagine Pokémon death... Imagine having that super bond with a Pokémon only to see it get cut in half by a cyther or some shit. Well, that is the purpose of flowers on real plants, to attract pollinating insects/birds. Once it's fertilized, the flowers fall off, to save energy for growing fruit. Then, the next year, the flowers bloom again. The Lilligant isn't losing her happiness, she just doesn't need to attract a mate anymore, because she has one. And the male knows she's got a stable & healthy enough life to support a family. I can see a young trainer being so upset that her carefully-raised Lilligant lost her pretty petals after she catches a handsome Nuzleaf... only to be reassured by a Pokémon breeder mentor, and get all excited to prepare the nest for the new couple and their brood of baby Petilil!

Froslass seems to be based off of a Japanese fairytale of a woman who was lost in a blizzard. A traveler came to help her and the woman asked the traveler to hold her baby while she went off, promising to come back. The longer the traveler held the baby, as the woman never came back, the heavier it became. They soon realize the baby is actually a rock, and that they are now frozen in place.

Pokemon M&S just generally has creepier Pokedex entries. The one that got me is that one, whatever Stufful evolves into, that talks about how the thing is in the habit of hugging people, and "many trainers have left this world after having their spine squashed" from being hugged by it. Uhh…dark much? I can't help but wonder if Pokemon is trying to evolve with its fanbase to become darker and more "mature", to keep up with those of us who grew up loving Pokemon and are now adults.

Cooper Blackmon but megas all become extremely brutal. Glalie breaks it's jaw open when it mega evolves. Salamance turns on its trainer from time to time when it goes mega. Lucario becomes extremely vicious as a mega. And I am sure if you look at mega he hard dex entry you may never ever want to see it go mega for as long as long as you live.

I'm not 100% sure why, but even when I was a kid my fave evolution line was Gastly's. Sun and Moon have only made me like them more. My first Gastly who evolved into Haunter... she is literally the only reason we beat that Lurantis trial, in no form of exaggeration. Hypnosis and curse are lifesavers! Now I have a Gastly named after the angel of death Samael, my first one that's a Haunter now named Flicker, and a Haunter-SOS-captured Gengar.
