Creepy Bad Endings # 2

With video 666 closer than I'd like, I've developed a taste for the dark lately. As a result, I've started this new series, showcasing, in my opinion, the scariest, most unpleasant and cruel bad endings in video games of all time.
Bad Endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world/city/etc, something had to happen that, at best, creates a bitter-sweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win after all your struggles. Sure, Game Overs CAN be scary too, but more often than not, all you'll get when you run out of lives is a simple "Game Over" message, possibly with the option to try again. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

To explain the bad endings, either one of these may be true: A. The Mr X in the bad endings is a robot controlled by the brain. B. The bad endings take place before Mr X becomes a brain.

Yeah...Japan sometimes has a thing about showing bright happy credits with nice music even though the whole story, be it a movie (usually horror) or game, was depressing and/or violent. I'm not sure why. Maybe because the lesson is that even after depressing things, life has to go on or something.

The reason why the credits play in the bomb ending of BK3 is that the bombs were just one element in Mr X's overall plan of causing the Lima Nations to break out in nuclear war against each other. By capturing the General in Stage 6 and having Shiva impersonate him in 7B, his goal was to escalate the war, and the team prevents that, so they've still succeeded on their overall mission. In SOR3, the plot is more insular and the mission is to save the city, which they fail to do if the bombs blow.

Nice series git. I've been an avid follower of your series' for a couple years now but your "Creepy Bad Endings" series is my favorite, by far. As I've had similar thoughts and ideas about a lot of the games you've explained myself. Especially the Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle series. Infact... I find this game ridiculously harder than the previous 2 games in the series, on Easy its not that difficult but on Normal or above, I could never make it past Yamato and even when I could I could never save the chief of police in time. Thus, I always have only seen the "The end?" endings. I've never gotten the good ending, ever. I only managed to get to the final boss (Robot Y) twice and both times I ever did I could never beat it in the time limit or would just get game over lol (I always refuse to cheat in games cause I'm stubborn XD) PS: Was there a part where after beating the game to get the good ending that you actually have another stage where you have to escape the building? And fight a "super" version of Shiva? Because for some reason I seem to recall fighting this version of Shiva once... but I can't remember why or if it was a modded version of BK3.

There hasn't been a Streets of Rage game since this one, so there's been no further canon to prove it didn't end badly. (Though it probably didn't)

This was back when KZbin made very unfair time limiting with video uploadings, I can't believe we can only have the video limit to be 10min or less. Luckily we get to overflow the video time limit, but unfortunately our new video limit is 30hr or less. At least it's better than the 10min video time limit back in 2010-2011 or earlier

The second time I played, however, I knew my body was ready, playing through the game on the hardest difficulty and, surprisingly, breezing through the game, saving the Chief in time and quickly dispatching the final boss. Thus, I got the best of the four possible endings.

Ending that scarred me for life the most is if your playing Myst and you go into D'Ni (sp?) without the page to the linking book which lets you get back to Myst, Atrus just says, "Well I guess your stuck here...forever"

This is good stuff, but I have a few suggestions/questions Maybe the man in the picture was the doctor that was mentioned in the dialogue ( I never played the third one) Apparently axil was captured, yet he appeared at the end with almost nn sign of him being recused. Also, you say that mr x is still alive in the other ending, but It doesent actually say that. And I think It would havebeen even more effective if they died in the facility Good stuff, its nice to see somone put effort in :)

In the video "creepy bad ending 3", we can say your right about the death of Tails, remember what Dr.Robotnik do with animal?... No not what you thing ^^ He turn animals into robot, meaning that now Tails is just a heartless robot that no one can save (even LubLub XD).

Bare Knuckle III makes way more sense when it comes to plot, as it's darker...but in Bare Knuckle III you have successfully prevented a devastating war by rescuing the General in both Round 7(A) endings and the destruction in the caused by the bombs is just a little nuance, while in Streets of Rage 3 you basically have failed your task if you let the time run out. This explains why Bare Knuckle III still runs the credits and stuff at the Round 7(A) Failure ending and Streets of Rage 3 does not.

Yes, such structure and bad endings is what I think made Streets of Rage 3 a powerful game. And even that depressing music has some hints of Prokofiev-style dissonance, which makes it all the more directly felt.

Originally fighting force was streets of rage 4 but sega bowed out of the project when it was nearly complete because of disagreements with core. Sega found out that core was planning to release sor 4 on multiple competitor's consoles which sega did not approve of. So when sega bowed out of the project some minor things(like the game title) were altered in the final game version so that core would avoid a possible lawsuit from sega.

This seems like a really cool idea. I'll be catching up for sure. I wouldn't necessarily call them "creepy," but I do know of two particularly ominous bad endings. In both King of the Monsters 2 and Chimera Beast, the final levels and bosses represent a pitched battle for domination of the ENTIRE planet. In KOTM2, they're coming off of the first game, where the surviving Earth monsters were all set to rule the world, but then the dang space monsters show up and try to take over. For the first two levels, there's actually something of a three-way fight for Earth, with the measly human military getting into the mix as well, but by the end it's just the Earth monsters and the evil alien overlord. In the good ending, the Earth monsters survive to reign over the ruins of civilization, kind of a downer in some ways, but at least the damn aliens lost. In the bad ending, however... uh... everyone dies. Like, everyone. "The Earth rumbles, and then all is silent. At last there is peace." Similarly, the final level of Chimera Beast has the player facing off against a giant mutant Eater in a mushroom cloud while the human-expy creatures on the planet attempt to escape on an ark. In the good ending, you succeed in destroying all the mutant Eaters, including yourself, and basically save the universe from something like a cross between a xenomorph and the thing. However, in the bad ending, you are told that while the human craft escaped the planet, it carried the Eaters with it... and they're heading for Earth. DUN DUN DUNNNN! Seriously apocalyptic stuff, but given the overall tones of the game, I wouldn't interpret it as creepy per se, since it's established with their respective concepts that the scope is already pretty large, so of course the endgame is going to have really dramatic stakes.

I believe the idea behind showing the player the ending credits in the Japanese version is that you still managed to thwart Mr. X's plans to start a war even if he detonated those bombs. Still doesn't feel like much of a victory. I never understood why the English version of this game was so heavily censored. If the game was released post 9/11 I would have understood given the subject matter involving terrorist bombings, but it was released in the 90s. Kids saw bomb threats on episodes of Power Rangers and Inspector Gadget back then and nobody batted an eye. Also can anybody tell me what the text in the Japanese version is?

Wasn't there one where if you played through the game in multiplayer, then one of you accepts the big bad's deal and the other doesn't, you fight to the death. And if the one who accepted the deal wins you get a special bad ending. Or am I thinking of a different game?

It took me a while, but I finally managed to beat SOR3 with Shiva on normal (expert) difficulty and get the good ending. I used loads of save states; it took me nearly 2 hours to defeat Jet at the end of Stage 6 (I was on my last life and last continue, and had to retry umpteen times.) For a teen amateur gamer like me, this was probably my biggest achievement ever in gaming. I defeated Robot Y rather cheaply, by jump-kicking him off screen all the time without stopping.

Your machine shut down when it said "yes traitor. Let me show you how"? Damn that's like Mr. X caused the season premiere of Revolution where the world of electronics and physics just fails. Mr. X activates his plan, ail planes fall strait down out of the sky for no reason. Which I'm not sure how a plan falls strait down and in a flat spin due to loss of power, but such is tv series physics. Now where can I go to watch some good endings for this?
