Creepy Bad Endings # 21

Not many RPGs have bad endings, and my guess is that most developers would feel an unhappy end to such involving and long games would be far too cruel. But then again... that never stopped the Breath of Fire series from having them. In fact, even Final Fantasy has done the same.
Apologies for some of the in-game dialogue being in Japanese, that was due to my own laziness.
Bad Endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

Buckthorn or equip the Genji gloves with all characters, the bare class and the 4 shot ability from the archer class, you can attack up to 8 times with each character!

I was prepared to MANLY expulse water out of my eyes, a skill I learnt as a movie watcher, while looking as MANLY as possible, (chin up, wide angry eyes, mouth shut as if you ate something sour, etc. and proceed to expulse water from your eyes, BUT NOT, these wankers had to come back alive!

I love how with all of the SNES and PS1 Final Fantasies, the final boss just dissolves into little pieces and fades into nothingness. It feels so rewarding to watch it happen.

4:10 - I always thought that after all those level 3 spells that X-Death threw at Galuf (when every time that I play through the game just the first one is enough to bring Galuf's HP to 0 immediately), by the time the fight was finished Galuf's body should be nothing but ash. .... LPFan EXDEATH does an attack that's instantly brings you to 0hp(TRIPLE CASTING) and in this game the exp needed to level is BIG i measured ff2 stat grinding and 2 was faster

You don't even need to grind to . Just get yourself a Reflect Ring in Barrier Tower or (re)cast reflect in battle. If you do that, only Meteor will hit you out of the triple-cast. If you think your HP is too low, just use a Goliath Tonic.

A generic bad guy??? Tell me you meant it's motivations are generic, because DUDE, a tree, being the big bad evil final boss in an RPG is everything but generic! Also : great video. His motives, powers, and other features are very generic. He is a bad guy to be a bad guy. His species and his origins are not.

Generic boss doesn't mean it has a similiar design to other bosses, it means that his overall character (personality, goal, past, relationship) are bare as heck Example : Loewe from Trails in the Sky, has a boring white haired boy wielding a one handed sword design, a VERY common trope for a character, but his past, his relationship with the hero, and many other things made him one of the most memorable character in the series

Compared to most FF villains, he's not very deep as a character. He's just evil for the lulz. Which is fine, but it doesn't make him particularly memorable.

I imagine that Galuf fighting when his HP is reduced to zero was supposed to come off as comical, but who cares. That was still an awesome way of showing him being so determined that he won't even let basic game mechanics stop him.

As far as the variety of bad endings go, I'd have to say the worst would be if Bartz is the only one who lives. Why? Well, if Bartz dies, all that really happens that affects him is Boko can't show his kids to his owner. That's it. nothing too terrible, just sad. However, Lenna, Faris and Krile are all royalty, so if they die, there are no heirs to the throne (this is the case anyway even if Krile lives as far as her kingdom goes, but that's beside the point), so the kingdoms, while this may not entirely be the case, might go as far as to engage in civil war (or possibly wars with competing kingdoms given how there is no ruler) just to get a ruler on the throne. Bartz has no real responsibility when it comes to these issues, and thus he can continue to wander the world...as the flames of war burn around him.

I also love watching your videos entirely. I don't always watch all the full videos of most people, but yours are the longest but I do. Well, that was quite sad. I never played FF, but it's quite heavy to the conscience to empathize the characters you let them die in the ending.

I think Exdeath and ultimecia, wanted the same thing, in the final battle in VIII, if you didn't use a phoenix down in time, that character would disintegrate and be absorbed in time compression, they could have done the same thing in that one too. I still think Ultimecia was just put in there to be a big final boss of the game. she was so random... I never played V though.

The flower bed towards the end had me all hoping for something grotesque to happen. ;( You can't just make a flower bed to resemble a skull with lights positioned like eyes and a nose...and not have some kind of foreboding. Especially when the light is that of fallen battle buddies.

Interesting. I didn't even know about this potential change to the ending. Once you destroy a few of Neo Exdeath's pieces the chances of you losing a party member are slim. That would be quite chilling if they were lost for good. Sure you saved the world, but at what cost? I strongly recommend you take a look at Demon's Crest for your next Creepy Bad Ending (specifically the game's worst ending). Just type in 'Demon's Crest Bad Ending'. The music really drives it home, I feel.
