Bad endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

For those confused about the whereabouts of carbuncle (arle's best friend git briefly mentioned), this is a fan translation of a Japanese exclusive game (later games were released in america, which will be important in a minute). Because of this, the little yellow creature is called "ka-kun" in this version, and in later American releases of the puyo puyo series (puyo puyo tetris, puyo puyo champions, etc.), "ka-kun" had his name localized to "carbuncle". I bet that no one even asked, but I thought I'd answer anyway

For games that make you work harder for the worst endings you should look into the Disgaea series. Most of those require some extreme post-game levels of grinding to get to in one way or another, usually involving fighting enemies with levels in the quadruple digits (compared to the main story, where enemies or bosses rarely if ever break double digits).

I've heard it's possible to also get this bad ending by playing TOO well. Supposedly there's a glitch that, if you make some horrendous chains (like 15+ I think) and get enough points (perhaps 1 million?), you can overflow the EXP counter and end up with an impossibly high requirement for level up. This is mostly only possible against the easier enemies, I suspect, because the harder ones wouldn't give you enough time to set up a chain worth than many points before crushing you with their own attacks.

Yep, you are referring to Puyo Puyo Tsuu CD on the PC-Engine, Japan's Turbografx 16 console. You only need at least 45,000 points on floor 1 to trigger the overflow glitch. Yes, it guarantees you can see the bad ending for yourself. You'd need just over a million more points to successfully get out, which considering how the PC-Engine port controls, and how high of a chain you'd need MULTIPLE TIMES without dying, is basically impossible.
