Considering that there is a segment in Shenmue 2 where Ryo is attacked by someone with a chainsaw (and yes, you can fail it; the screen just turns white and you restart the segment as though nothing happened), Lan Di must already be extremely powerful! That finishing move he uses to kill Ryo's father (and Ryo himself in the bad ending) is one blue beam away from being the Kamehameha from Dragon Ball!

There is one chronological error in Shenmue: Sonic never existed in the 80s. Sega still existed, but that is when Alex Kidd was still the mascot. But this is Sega, so they won’t mind messing with time.

I have heard about this game but never bothered to look into it. Oh boy, now I’m absolutely in love with the atmosphere and open world gameplay. Thank you for covering this in creepy bad endings. I feel like the bad dub adds to the whole 'martial arts movie' thing the game has going on. Also, this game is pretty ahead of its time, especially the budget, overexpensive games are common nowadays, but this was probably absurd back then.
