A very good rule--and I think that was how it was explained to me as a kid, outside being their house--but once they're inside (especially if it's harmful bug), it's squishin' time! Bonus points to if the bug is going towards your food/snackies, you find the bug ON YOUR PERSON (you have the God-given right to have a toddler freakout to get it off you), or it's on/in your bed. It was in the summer when I was a teen and I'm not kidding, I woke up with a tick in my bed (thankfully, not attached or any signs of bite on me), but what a wake-up call. I can't stand ticks...

They only need to bite animals and drink their blood as sustenance for egg-laying, some species like the elephant mosquito don't even need blood (especially since their larvae eat other mosquito larvae instead). They're only a real issue if you live in areas where mosquitos spread disease like dengue fever

Generally I leave bugs alone. Unless they are either 1. In my bed, 2. In my bathroom or 3. A roach. I know they're beneficial in some ways yadda yadda but I hate them so much and they gross me out to no end. I'll leave them alone if they're outside but once they're inside they have chosen death.

i'm the same way, except for #2. i generally don't even care if they're in the bathroom. but emphasis on #3 because we don't get the little german cockroaches down here, we get AMERICAN COCKROACHES. the giant suckers that are like 4 inches long. one of the most surreal experiences of my life was watching a baby possum scurry around my backyard at night and chase down and ABSOLUTELY DEVOUR one of those giant roaches. but i am so chill around most other bugs that i am the resident wasp whisperer - if a wasp ends up in the house, or somewhere else on our property where it doesn't belong, it's my job to gently relocate it because everyone else is too terrified of getting stung. people don't appreciate that bugs are too stupid to know what humans are and as long as you're not shaking their house or swatting them, they genuinely can't tell the difference between you and a tree.

From south texas, I’ve been blessed to never have seen a centipede in my life, but the other day, my mom was going to bed, and before she sat down, she saw a little baby scorpion on her side of the bed. She also found a banana spider in the fender of the truck, and even though she knew they’re harmless, she jumped about 5 inches into the friggin sky. Love our Texas creepy crawlies 😂

@@davidfitzpatrick6535 no katydids are part of the Orthoptera family along with grasshoppers and crickets, they're also green, live solitarily, make a variety of noises like chirps and raspy calls much like the cicada but longer, they also have long legs, a cannibalistic attitude and mostly live in shrubbery, cicadas on the other hand live in groups, spend 17 years underground, mostly on trees, drink tree sap, their calls are similar but have key differences and they're part of the cicdoidea family

Interesting. The story about Charlie and the wasp remains me of the time when my family dog named Zeus tried to eat a small bee while going out for a walk. I don’t remember if the bee was alive or not but I’m pretty sure that we did everything possible to make sure that Zeus didn’t eat it. As for the other bugs, I just kill them if they annoy me too much. I do sometimes remove them from my apartment and dump them outside or flush them down the toilet and hopefully never have to worry about waking up to find a tick or a bug crawling up your leg underneath your pj pant leg.

I hated the show "It's Tough to be a Bug" too and I already had a fear of insects. I was more uncomfortable than anything, especially with feeling the weird sensation in the seats. Thank God they're replacing it with a Zootopia show.

For all the years I was in texas (born there), outside the fortworth area, we had rabbits, deer mice, cicadas, snakes, lots of Mosquitoes, bees and, wasps, earwigs and spiders of course. But not a lot of centipedes in my area.. or at least not many that I noticed. I love hearing more about the different areas of the best state though!

my system for dealing with bugs (at least the ones i regularly encounter here in suburban utah) is basically - centipedes, mosquitos: kill on sight. - wasps (or any sketchy-looking critter in the bee/wasp family): don’t get anywhere near it. quickly vacate the premises, if i can do so without provoking it. - anything else: acknowledge it, then let it carry on with its life.

centipedes i avoid. mosquitos i kill on sight. wasps and other stinging bugs get the same live-and-let-live treatment as everything else. the only time i've been stung by wasps is when i literally sat on their house and started violently swinging it back and forth (they had built their nest on the underside of my aunt's porch swing). and frankly, i find their reaction in that situation completely understandable.
