Well... some of the Mario spinoffs can get pretty dark. Super Paper Mario has the River Twygz along with an overall very dark story, and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door has a goddamn noose on the second screen of the game. Y'know, I think it would actually be better if in the Cthulu game it was impossible to get the "good" ending. Like, every time you play the statues are in different locations, and one is always missing. The story of Cthulu is always one of a descent into madness, what better way to illustrate that then to drive the player mad as they try over and over but can never truly succeed? Sure, it's breaking the rules of games and being needlessly cruel, but that's the point. You shouldn't be allowed to win, because that defeats the purpose of making you feel powerless and insignificant in the face of such an unknowable, incomprehensibly powerful being.

Honestly I would prefer the statues to be photos of Cthulhu that are torn.
