As polished as the hack version is, the .exe version will always be more unsettling to me because of the ending. Mario weeping over his brother's demise is incredibly heart-breaking and sets a genuinely despairing tone over the whole matter. The rom hack, however, kind of ruins that mood with the whole battle and flinging him into the lava with the cape. Mario doesn't even look fazed at the end of that one! That was a deal breaker for me.

What the creator needs to do is make the ROM hack more faithful to the source material, but keep the MMX styled battle as a secret or extra.

mixing some of the differences in each version would have probably helped imo. since most people dont like cheap jumpscares (and i personally have a negative reaction to them), the mushroom starting you over instead is the better go-to. but the ending for the .exe version is a lot better than the hack, mainly because of the drawn-out fight in the hack making it a lot less unsettling and the way the .exe version comes to a close (i.e, mario lamenting over what he had to do and the luigi at the end title card being a lot more disturbing in appearance)

In my opinion .smc version is better. Sure you can't move in all of the map like you can the original super Mario world and you're just confined to one location but it's really good because it recreates more than you could've done on the EXE it was really good it felt very good and it was better because you can't replicate all of what was in the EXE version that you can do on the actual super Mario world SNES ROM but besides that but I'm saying is you can't replicate everything on a game maker and you use the original game it makes it better. Even though there are some hardware limitations the game is still very good and it will be remembered as a good re-creation of a dumb-ish creepy pasta

Not KingHelix Well, the .exe in terms of story is actually more accurate to the creepypasta (Mario entering the castle, Luigi jumping on Mario, Mario crying). The .smc version however is indeed also better in other elements (blood bowser, invincibility, Mario's following you). And the Mario vs Luigi fight is actually very original, so I do think the .smc is better! Too bad the ending picture on the .smc version can't be more accurate to the story though (well he looks bad enough on that anyway, wugh....)

Playing the ending backwards doesn’t really give you anything, there’s no secret message. It seems to be a pitched down version of another part of the sound track.
