Just when I happened to be lamenting that there hasn't been a new Creepy Moments video in over a year

I wanna add something Git didn't get around to mention: Part of the reason Ronan is much less deserving of pity than Giles despite both being Melzas' pawns is that Ronan isn't mind controlled. Not only that, but what Git said about Alundra getting framed for Sybil's death? Ronan snapped her neck. What *also* went unsaid and is worth mentioning is that Sybil's a kid. Ages 6 and up here in Germany, because you can't teach your child too soon that someone may kill them! =)
@knightofarkronia99688 ай бұрын
My headcanon is that Ronan secretly knows that Melzas is a heartless demon only pretending to be a god, but he goes along with it anyways because Melzas allows him to indulge his darkest impulses.

Very funny how Link eventually adopts Alundra's design as his own, Blue outfit and ponytail.

The scene of the fire on Inoa Village reminds me of another PS1 game called Wild Arms. Soon after meeting the three main characters, there's a festival on the town of Adlehyde, and one of the partygoers will ask you to look for their missing son. As soon as you find him, the sky suddenly breaks and the whole town is invaded by monsters. The town suffers tons of damage, and lots of people die, including the king (whose daughter is one of the main characters). I consider this one of my personal creepy gaming moments
@whoisthisgit Жыл бұрын
I've actually had that game, that moment and a few others in consideration for this series. That whole era of gaming was the darkest and hardest-hitting for me.

The PS1 must be home to the cruelest games overall, perhaps relishing in being free from whatever censorship codes Nintendo operated on back then. Alundra 2 doesn't hold back either, seeing many villagers and animals forcibly transformed into mindless mechanical servants by enchanted keys. Then there's Arc the Lad 2 which saw literally every city and town in the game wiped out before the Dark One could be stopped, leaving it to the handful of survivors to rebuild a nearly ruined planet. Legend of Legaia, Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics as well.
@megavolt67 Жыл бұрын
Git mentioned Breath of Fire 2 and the whole thing with Melzas sounds incredibly similar to what Deathevan was doing except that his church was worldwide. And Final Fantasy Tactics isn't more cruel than Tactics Ogre before it. I'd say that darker stories in RPGs had become more the norm than the exception by '94 or so which was a few years before PS1 RPGs really took off. Of course, we didn't get many of those darker Super Famicom RPGs out west (like every freaking Shin Megami Tensei game) because RPGs were seen as more risky games to invest in for localization until FF7's breakthrough success and because Nintendo was concerned with maintaining the NES era family-friendly image they had cultivated with westerners.
@WhiteFangofWar Жыл бұрын
@@megavolt67Good analysis. I was going to say 'either SNES or PS1 had the cruelest games' but I was only going off the SNES games that were localized. Tactics Ogre is indeed cruel to its cast, same for Final Fantasy 6 with its whole World of Ruin thing.

I would LOVE for you to do a complete deep dive into the story of Alundra. Legitimately one of my favourite games of all time and a serious competitor against the classic 2d Zelda games.
@Justsomeguy-sg8xf Жыл бұрын
0:31 Thankfully I went ahead and finished the game when you first featured it in the boss analysis series. 4:52 It haunts me too. I was dreading hearing it again when I saw this was an Alundra video. 13:34 I guess that means no Buffy the Vampire Slayer then. 21:33 I relate. 24:05 A Happy Edition is something I would play too, honestly. Perfect video for the Halloween week, Git.

I believe the accumulation of enough 'rip offs' is how one ends up with these things we call 'genres'.
@ivortering7120 Жыл бұрын
Err... Not really? I mean, "genre" unites all games which share one specific "idea", like, say, all metroidvanias involve connected modular map structure. Even if they are in the same group, you can't say that Symphony of the Night ripped-off Metroid. For that mater neither Wonder Boy in Monster World ripped-off Simon's Quest, even if they have similar map structure. It's similarities in "design", which make people call games as "look-alikes", "clones", or flat "rip-offs". It's kind of perspective thing, with a hint of elitism, honestly.

I just looked it up. Not only was Alundra released first (1/98 US vs. Legend of Legaia 3/99 US), Legaia had a different music composer. This mean's LoL ripped off (more like plagerized) Requiem from Alundra, not the other way around.

That's because same people that made landstalker, worked on this game (part of them, at least). And some of them were also involed in shining wisdom. Beyond oasis is just similar though.

Many modern games fail to evoke these same feelings with their stories. A lot the time, more budget goes into story development for older games due to a lower budget for graphical fidelity. Not saying its impossible though... Tales of Xillia 2 for example sits in a sad pit in my heart that makes me pity the MC so... So much... Git, I wonder if you ever gave that game a play... If not, and you like the tales of: series, try it.

I see this game as more of an evolution of the Landstalker formula than a straight up Zelda clone. Now if it's something like Crusader of Centy, sure, that's a blatant Zelda clone, lol (which isn't to say it's a bad game).
@RenoKyrie Жыл бұрын
I also used to not like clone games, but nowadays i have respect on clone games MOSTLY on ones where they end up deviating too much from the original and actually RESPECT them Nioh 2 is a Souls Clone but its soo far away speed pace wise it end up being more a DMClike with Souls RPG mechanic Punishing Gray Raven is just a love letter to many media UNLIKE Hoyoverse games, same goes to Library of Ruina(HIGHLY reccomend this Masterpiece) + Limbus Company But when you have trash "Realistic" games like Forspoken you instantly know how bad it is because the people behind them doesnt want to make a game for a game, just for money Dishonorable mention to Daemon X Machina being a bad Armored Core wannabe While Project Wingman is THE BEST Ace Combat period
