I used to legitimately believe Lavender Town Syndrome was real as a child solely because I was prone to spontaneous nosebleeds and one just happened to start one time when I was listening to one of those "ORIGINAL POKEMON GREEN BETA" Lavender Town tracks floating out there. I think those playground rumor-type creepypastas are some of my all-time favorites and it just really really sucks that in an era where information is readily available at our fingertips it's way harder to suspend your disbelief and/or wonder if stories like that are actually true or not.

I have this issue as well. When I was a kid I watched tons of nature documentaries, and when I was in 2nd-3rd grade I discovered cryptids. The concept was instantly fascinating to me, animals as of yet undiscovered by science, a whole new frontier to explore, my imagination ran wild. Flash forward to now and all that is lost. I am much more knowledgeable about zoology and ecology than those documentaries could have ever taught me (seriously, do you know how much blatant misinformation is in nature documentaries?) and for every single crytpid I encounter there are always at least 4 or 5 reasons to me on why that animal could never come to exist in our world, even for the most convincing cryptids, and as such they only bring me disappointment. I know a lot of people view cryptids more as ghost stories than actual animals that are undiscovered by science (for instance wendigoon’s current cryptid iceberg) but to me they always represent some fascinating animal that we haven’t discovered yet. And for that reason I keep delving deep into online forums, KZbin videos etc etc looking for that one cryptid that I can’t actually think of a valid reason for it not to exist

I LOOOVE Smile Dog. If you wanna' see a real in-depth analysis and discussion of it, I recommend seeing Midnight Krick's video on it. He even got to ask the creator a handful of questions.

Ben Drowned hit me at the perfect time in my life; young enough where the tropes didn't seem overwritten and the game footage felt convincing. I also really tend to enjoy stories where the antagonist's goal is to have the protagonist experience/understand what happened to the antagonist, rather than just kill them.

I think the one creepypasta that marked me the most was Candle Cove. Even when I knew that the rest were fake I was so convinced that the program had existed and I still think about it from time to time. It was so simple yet so effective.

I’ve always loved creepypasta, even since I was a kid (even though I was probably way too young lol). It’s always been a fun, and often very interesting, part of the internet for me…
@TheParadoxGamer16 ай бұрын
One of the biggest aspects, for me at least, was the ease of just suspending your disbelief. You could believe that someone did this, even it its not well written. The grand scale of internet horror became more inclusive like you said, more than just writing, you felt sucked in and believed something my favorite horror youtuber Night Mind noted, “This is not a game”. I think Creepypasta falls under the same category of fiction that sentence was born from, ‘Unficition’. I loved this video, love all your content in general. (Also i heard that tape recorder sound from TMA, the brain poison has you too.)

I remember spending so much time circa like 2009-2013 staying up late reading all the creepypasta’s that were coming out at the time. I was fresh out of college, jobless, and had waaay too much time on my hands. Stuff like NESGodzilla, Candle Cove, and a lot of the work by the author Slimebeast still sticks with me to this day. Its kind of sad in a way that the barrier to entry for new horror is so high these days, I sort of miss the days when any person (kid, preteen, teen, adult, whatever) could write a story and post it online and have it gain a lot of traction. Now it seems like everything needs to be either in video format or advertised heavily for anyone to notice.

Candle Cove was another great one, that and marble hornets. While I was older than the intended fan base at the time (I'm like forty now, I'd have been in my twenties) it felt like something special was happening in the horror community when the creepypasta movement was big.

From someone else who was in the same home situation, my parents assumed that reading level would naturally cut me off from content that was too mature for me. They definitely weren't correct.

no honestly, im more astonished you didnt mention the my little pony creepy pastas I guess they could be seen as kind of niche, but the whole spawning of Smile. The chokehold creepypastas have on me even now after like a decade of my first time reading one is kinda insane lol. What’s interesting about Jeff’s story is that it was rewritten back in like 2015 cause just about everyone acknowledged that the original was bad. Revisiting the original story and then comparing it to the new one is a really interesting experience for sure

My parents were the opposite, I got roped into the horror genre way too early in my life by my mother who is an avid fan of Stephen King and horror films. Showing horror games and movies to a 6 year old, to her, was perfectly fine - and honestly I'm thankful she did. Anyway, the whole Slenderman creepypasta used to scare the shit out of me, I remember I used to go through pictures of supposed sightings.... Great video!
@Celebrindal3332 ай бұрын
It’s hilarious to me that you read IT to get scared, because I read it for the opposite reason. I’ve been a horror junkie since accidentally watching Jaws on TV at 4yrs old. When I was 9 my mom and her friend watched the tv movie of IT, which I watched with one eye from the hallway while they thought I was asleep. It was the first time I had a nightmare that froze me with fear (Pennywise ate my Mom). At 11 I decided to confront my fear and read the book, which gave me the ‘tools’ to combat Pennywise. My mantra was “I believe in unicorns, I believe in fairies but I don’t believe in you!” The different upbringing can make the experience so different, my Mom tried to censor what I watched (but I was a latchkey kid) however my aunt never censored anything which is why I saw Candyman at 6yrs old and wouldn’t go to the bathroom with the door closed for longer than I care to admit. Your parents were probably trying to save you from this irrational fear. Oh well, I’m a horror addict now constantly searching for something to scare me 😂

I think creepypastas was my favorite part of growing up in the early 2000s in middles school my friends and i used to spend lunch retelling or coming up with our own creepypastas, usually on the spot we had a running joke about making a bowl of spaghetti and one of the noodles being shaped like a skull calling it... creepy pasta
