Bought this and the manual does not explain what each symbol is to the guy who uses it sporadically. Every few months when I break it out I gotta revisit what symbol is what online instead of referring to the manual....great job guys!

i bought it years ago for about $35US on amazon and that was the going price. I see it is available on Ebay for same now. I am surprised it was offered for $80US. I never saw it for that anywhere except ripoff sites. It is a pretty good meter for $35US. good review. pretty much agree with your conclusions after using it for a couple of years. edit: when i bought it, there were a few technical errors in the manual (micro vs milli mix up if i recall). i contacted cust svc and they jumped on it and put up a corrected pdf on the amazon page. this was before the pandemic. not sure how active they are now. i was told they were working on a range lockable next model that i might review but never heard from them again.

Thanks for the input..35$ is definitely fair. I wonder how many actually paid 80$US for this? Good to see customer svc react so quickly!

Interesting video and review. 890Z is available for £60 in UK, so not the cheapest over here either. Looked like there were isolation slots in the PCB around the PTCs. Wonder if you could get a calibration procedure and bring that capacitance measurement closer.
@KeepOnTesting
@KeepOnTesting Жыл бұрын
Those isolation slots were a nice find! Wow 60UK pounds.. definitely not any cheaper your side of the pond! Calibration could be an interesting option mind you at the going $$ rate it should definitely do better 👍

Bezosville US currently showing for under $30 (after coupon). Maybe you can set up an affiliate link because your review is probably the most helpful to someone considering this (or any) meter.

Most meters now claim True RMS and many are likely truthful as standard chips support the feature, but it would be nice to see this tested with a non-sinusoidal AC source. A signal generator could work if you use a known-RMS meter to compare against or you could have a standard non-sinusoidal test device with a calculated and confirmed RMS reference. A PWM or triac circuit should work, but even a single-phase diode rectifier should read 40% lower than RMS on an averaging meter, so that might be the easiest test as these are easy to build and can even be scrounged from discarded power supplies.
@KeepOnTesting
@KeepOnTesting Жыл бұрын
That's a valid point 👉 Rob..TRMS is often slapped on alot of CHEAP-O Multimeters but verifying it's accuracy would be interesting👍
@jonfreeman9682
@jonfreeman9682 Жыл бұрын
Not sure you really need the precision of RMS for most home use. Maybe for high precision AC circuits but it's rarely needed unless you work professionally.

WoW - you can get a FLUKE 106 or 107 with fluke quality input protection for similar money on Amazon, also a $35 (US) Habotest HT118A would be a better deal, also a $30 full size full function Astro AI DM6000AR, or as another comment suggested an Amprobe AM510 or 530 or a nice late model UniT161B Electricians meter - any would be about the same or less money and a much better meter for this kind of money or less. Sorry Crenova, youre meter is "ok" for about $25 (maybe) $30 but your asking caviar money for a fast food meter and input protection is mucho minimalist as well as ho-hum accuracy on the resistance range, something any half decent meter should show near 100% accuracy on. Swing and a miss Crenovo, but great review as usual Darren spot on-!

Flukes cost more than that. But this is pretty decent build quality. It's well designed PCB and seems decent components.

My only comment is about price. I just bought mine for $32. I have since found that someone bought one for $25. U.S. So, at these lower prices, worth it? I honestly doubt if I'll use every function, but for what I know, is good enough. How good or bad is it when you measure 1,000 and get a reading of 999.5.? And yes, it's a shame the manual don't tell what the symbols are. Thanks to you I now know. You weren't clear about what the hFE is for - or how to use it.
@KeepOnTesting

25-30$ it's worth it 👍 hFE is the transistor tester...a legacy output that still seems alive in 2024.

Good job on the review. I agree with you, it's priced too high. I can get a decent Extech or Amprobe meter for that price. Personally I think it should be priced like a Kaiweets in the 40.00 dollar range.

AS soon as I see a transistor tester on a meter, I'm sorta put off. Funny how the battery compartment still has contact springs going on to the PCB as well as the wires and plug - looks like the spring to PCB contacts weren't good enough.

The batteries are connected via two springs *and* via a connector?

Yea weird...looks like the 2 pin connector is the actual connection. Springs are for grounding onto the back of the shielding.

This thing is over-priced by a mile, *but* we can't really complain about the 1-min. backlight as that's far longer than most; annoying, but better than the typical 15-second jobbies. If this were priced at $30-$40, it would at least be competitive, but this meter is obviously not about value; it's about how well the seller has been able to game the Amazon review system and convince ignorant consumers to buy and 5-star a strictly average cheapo meter.
