Hi Dave, thanks for all the vids. Section plane control normal to projection is useful for creating geometry with controlled draft. If the projection direction reference is set to the 'pull direction' of the tooling action you're designing for (e.g. ejection mould parting plane, slider direction etc) then sketched geometry can be dimensioned (i.e. with an angle) relative to that reference. So it allows geometry with controlled draft to be created off complex (e.g. 3d) trajectories with minimal effort. This is also a useful method for creating surfaces to use as boundary conditions to control the draft on the edge of a boundary blend.

@3:50 Normal to Projection is very useful when you design to manufacture (for example an injection plastic part) . If you use the mold's Parting Plane as a Normal to Projection reference, then you are sure that the Variable Section Sweep Part can be safely ejected from the mold cavity because it is impossible to accidentally design an undercut. BTW keep 'em coming. Amazing tutorials.

Wow! Thanks! That is really useful information and I appreciate you sharing that. Since that option was introduced maybe a dozen years ago I’ve never understood the purpose and that makes total sense.

I have used Normal to projection to sweep a profile such that surface is always normal to mid plane which I used as normal to projection. Upon mirroring surface across the same plane , I got tangent continuity between two surfaces
