Never underestimate the power of bum and hip pads when you need a skirt to maintain a certain shape. The pannier style of boning could have potentially helped in giving some inspiration for your design, some of those ladies wanted their hips WIDE. BUT Regardless! I feel like panniers could have also helped with even more poof, at least in the side-regions, since panniers make a skirt wider to the sides. I'm not sure if that would do much if she wanted to get the same volume of poof around the whole skirt, though.

You know, I really appreciate how much confidence you have in figuring things out yourself as you go. As someone who nearly gave up sewing altogether due to constantly being told "your seams aren't perfect enough" or "you made one little mistake here so the whole thing is bad", it's refreshing to see someone so happy with a simular mindset to me. So long as you like the way it looks it doesn't matter how you get there!

I think what you really need for Lottie's dress, more so than a hoopskirt, is a grand pannier. They definitely had some super big ones back in the 1700s! And her dress is def more rectangle than circle: wider at the sides than it is at front and back
@Midge51842 ай бұрын
I wonder if Shay thought of adding in a drum farthingale or French farthingale, and possibly bumb roll or pads, to help with the poof and supporting the weight.

This was so unbelievably cute!! I definitely agree with the other comments that panniers would probably be a lot easier or perhaps adding vertical support to the hoop. I also think adding some horsehair to the hem of the actual dress would prevent the edges of the soft satin from getting dragged under the hoop like it did when you were moving around. I respect the reuse of your old project. That pink tulle was perfect!

You did a great job on this dress and your friend did a great job on the wig. The social distancing dress was an excellent source to recycle into a Lottie petticoat! The clip of the clothes racks during the ad segment looked like the door storage scenes in 'Monsters Inc'. I wonder if panniers or a bustle would help with the understructure? The dress looks like it floofs out to the side and back more than in the front. Something I've seen once, I think as a costume not a historical gown, was a central hoop skirt with three 'columns' of hoops around it, on the sides and back. Of course, as seen when Lottie gets knocked over after Frog!Naveen and Tiana get chased through the party, she *is* canonically wearing a hoop skirt, not multiple pieces.

I have been obsessed with watching your channel! You seem fun and adventurous... I am a self taught sewist, but never had the guts to try to make elaborate dresses like the ones I see you making... I think it would be so cool if you made a "living dress" one made out of plants and vines.... or how about a dress made of bubble wrap? How about a fairy costume made of fiber optics? Or A gown made of roses? A mermaid swimsuit? or a dress that transforms... for example starts as a cocoon, and at a pull of a string becomes a winged butterfly... how about trying your luck at one of those "quick change" dresses, you know the ones that have secret compartments that store a whole new outfit... maybe you could do Sleeping beauty's blue/pink dress or cinderellas dress that transforms from rags to the ball gown... I am so excited to see what you make next!!!!!

First of all!!! LOVE YOU !!!!!!! I made a few hook skirts and petticoats in my day. What I learned is.....If you have 6 hoops take hoop 3 and duplicate it. continue to make your hoop skirt.....use hoop 3 as a separate piece and tie that over your hoop skirt. That one extra hoop at the top will take off some of the weigh of the dress. Trust me. I made a hoop skirt out of hula hoops and duck tape.

I think a good idea for the shape you might've been going for is Marie Antoinette's wedding dress. You can see a good example of it in the 2006 film, I also think maybe an even stiffer wire would've helped hold the structure better, so it wouldn't collapse as much. Also check out "18th century pocket hoops" as someone else mentioned, that definitely would give you that rectangular look at the waist. You did an amazing job doing this all yourself, I would've died.
