@@the569 why are there plants that not safe for them? do they chew on the leaves?
@k.v.76813 жыл бұрын
@@jdandkikisExotics They don't tend to chew, but they jump. Some plants emanate toxic fumes (made worse by the fact it's an enclosed and warm space), some have toxic sap and the gecko jumping around damages the plant and lets sap leek out (dumbcane/Dieffenbachia/philodendrons/ficuses/aloes for instance).

Prob need to redo the enclosures or help out the suffering plants somewhat, somehow! I never thought to use the gardening wire for the vines, great tip! I kinda added to the vines by using vivarium safe silicone on natural/organic rope and twisted it around them before dunking in dry substrate, worked a treat and they are very, very random. I know this isn't the answer you were looking for but check Josh's frogs out. You can select plants for pets>crested gecko and he has a huge I mean HUGE selection of plants. Maybe you'll see one or a few of the ones he used. I'll be ordering some from them within the next few days because I'm building my first crested setup, yay! A lot of their stuff is sold out right now, not just plants but across the board. I think most shops are having some issues with suppliers atm. Anywho. Hope this helps.

I'm building 2 right now from absolute scratch, as in building the actual tanks out of glass I salvaged from a 55 gallon (absolutely NO fun to take apart and cut, it was my first and last time doing that, what a royal pain in the ass). I'm starting the background on the first enclosure today. Love building bioactive setups, so much more fun than slapping some plastic/resin stuff in a tank and calling it good.

Im thinking of getting a crestie but I’m trying to do a lot of research before jumping in. A vivarium set up seems like a really good idea. Why do you still have to pick out the feces? I’ve seen some other youtubers say you have to wait for the plants and insects to settle in the enclosure for a few weeks before introducing the geckos- do you feel like it’s a necessary step? What happens when you want to switch to a bigger cage- do you reuse all of the hydroballs and substrate when you switch to a new cage? Also what do you use to clean the glass/disinfect cage decor? Sorry lots of questions!
