great advice Wally!! A few months back I decided to move a few female cresteds that seemed “stuck” in the weight scale from a room in the house that stays cooler 68-75 to the animal room that stays 80 all year round and I have noticed the metabolism speeding up and their growth just getting better and better. I’m mostly doing this for those females that I want to get to breeding weight for the spring as for babies I do personally prefer a slower growth rate to ensure a healthy development!!

I have a heat question. I’m setting up a bio active vision cage with the light mounted on the inside. It ramps up and down to simulate daylight and grow plants. At the peek of the day an inch or so from the light it get to about 82. Now 5 inches down it’s my like 79 and on the ground it’s 75. So because they move around for the best temperature this is ok right? I have been reducing the output of the light periodically and rechecking. But I wondered if I’m over thinking it.

It does seem like you've taken a lot of time researching this. Good for you. Yes, as long as you have temperature gradient that are within the animal's requirements, and they can self regulate, the will do great. Make sure though your high temps are not too high.

I think you forgot to mention genetics....we have adult Geckos that are just smaller then others from different breeders. We also recently had twins pop out of one egg....the behemoth that popped out of that 2nd egg is today still twice as big as the twins. All three tanks are right next to each other, all three eat the same food at the same schedule, and all three came from the same parents. Bubba looks like one of the twins while the other looks different from the parents. A genetically large gecko will create more large geckos....I would like to see more breeding for large animals....100 gram examples for instance with big structure rather than obese. I've seen some big one's from a single breeder at Tinley not too long ago. Thanks for making the videos! Happy Holidays

Well, in nature, they find it. So, in captivity, my thought is that from a health standpoint it does not matter. From a keeper's ease of feeding and an enrichment point of view, it might be better on the side. But again, I think this is a very minor point.

Thank you for the tip. The issue with crickets is addressed in the video. The best food to feed cresteds is also addressed in the video. You might have missed these points.

I just got my crested on Sunday, hes 4 months old currently has repashy in his enclosure. Not sure if he's eating it, I gave about a small baby spoon full in a small bottle cap. Have you ever given dried mealworms to cresteds? I know they're not as good as live but was curious. I do have dried mealworms on hand, trying to find a way to use them up. I also have pangea with insects coming in the mail since its not locally available where I live.
@spencerfenno15313 жыл бұрын
I give dried mealworms to one of my breeding females. She refuses to eat bugs that move. But I mostly give her the pangia that has the insects in it. What I would recommend is Dubia roaches as a starter. But very small babies

@@spencerfenno1531 from my knowledge dubias are illegal to breed and sell where I live. Ill try dried and see what he does.

Mealworms are GREAT for crested geckos. There is a lot of bad information out there on all kinds of items like this. I did a video on feeding crested geckos insects last year. It should help. Not a fan of dried feeder insects of any kind.
@SupremeGecko3 жыл бұрын
" She refuses to eat bugs that move." I respectfully disagree with this. If she is hungry, she will eat the correct insects. I did a video on this last year that might be helpful.

Keep me posted on the dried insects- still feel a gut loaded insect is FAR better. And yes, cresteds WILL eat mealworms.

Did anybody in the community ever think about how stupid it is that it's okay to put little geckos in 10 gallon containers but it's better to put adults with their food right in front of them. Yes a little baby gecko can find its food in a 10 gallon container but an adult needs help finding its food so we just put it in a bearbottom container patented LLC

Yo why do all these people on your channel think they need a heat gradient for cresteds..telling them that up in top of the enclosure it's ok to be 82 degrees...they like room temp and like to be high up in enclosure often as they are arboreal. Do you need me to back that they are arboreal with scientific proof too? Quit editing your comments so that you look like I'm overreacting to all the terrible advice your giving. 82 degrees is pretty hot for a crested gecko.

You seem to be upset at something. How can I help?
@JC-sc9rx3 жыл бұрын
@@SupremeGecko I'm upset because you method seems to be raise the temp and gorge them on food. A very Tyson's chicken approach to raising a gecko...why does it have to grow fast anyway? You know what causes reptiles to grow right? An oxygen rich environment. Not jacking the heat or stuffing them with food. An oxygen rich environment and proper amounts of food with good nutrients. Small amounts of uvb to help maintain strong bones and with natural calcium conversion.
