I lived in London when St. Paul's dome was black. Are you old enough to remember those days? I haven't been back in fifty years so the astonishing change is amazing and now the power stations have closed down the air is all clean. My brother was born during the 1952 smog.

People are rightly cynical about skyscrapers - and at ground level the City is not a pleasant or interesting place to be - but in the space of 15 years London has arguably given itself the best skyline in the world

Its fitting that London is building more high buildings, metal beams & plate glass.. This technique was invented in Britain but because of mainly historical land protections, didn't build many. 🇬🇧

@@jbloun911 Really? Metal beamed buildings were invented in Britain. Plate glass for windows was invented in Britain. The first multi floored metal beamed building was in Britain. My father lived there for almost a year in a Cambridge-related/linked school in London and absolutely loved it in the late 60s. He even remembers his old metro stations, Elephant and Castle I presume, which took around 20 mins to get him to school on Oxford Street. He had never had a single problem there and lived in an Irish/English family house, i believe the landlord was an ex-policeman and gave my dad a few pieces of advises, well I think now London is way different from the '60s, but the same essence is there. I love the high rises, but please try to keep them away from the center and away from Historical buildings, Canary wharf is already too close(and the Shard too)

I love London, but in my opinion way too many skyscrapers are built within last two decades. The atmosphere is somewhat ruined.

Man u crazy as hell. That's what gives it that modern aesthetic. London looks wayyyy better now with the beautiful highrises
@ramochai2 жыл бұрын
@@johncampbell9812 I strongly disagree. Concentrating high rises in Docklands was fine (like Paris did) but now they are spreading all over like a disease. The city is being ruined by greed.
@johncampbell98122 жыл бұрын
@@ramochai what's wrong with the highrises tho? I think u should be gracious to be lucky enough to live in a city that they would even build them... especially LONDON
@ramochai2 жыл бұрын
@@johncampbell9812 High rises concentrate insane amounts of people in small pieces of land, overwhelming infrastructure, maximising air pollution and noise pollution. It's totally find to designate a financial centre and concentrate a limited number of high rises there, but the trend in London is worrying. Before too long, the city will lose its character and turn into some kind of Hong Kong on Thames.

@@ramochai well if it does, I'm sure the buildings will be constructed with supreme and eloquent artistry and culture to match the revered antiquity of the historic aesthetic
