I used to do that COULDN'T swim a lick! In the 80s it was 30 days on 30 days off! Ate damn good I would say! Took a lot of TRAINING especially tying knots! I could already cook good so that helped a lot plus I got to run the ship more and more! Had to leave though got a better job more pay removing asbestos for the Army got to travel to SAUDI Arabia and BELGIUM! Finally settled in the STATES ! Did asbestos removal in the Gulf removing off the pipes could see the sharks in the water about 80 ft. Below! Ate even better there! Still never learned to swim!

what an interesting slice of life! the mural looks cool but I think you've done the mural on your earlier uploads. the snake caught the fish but the plucky fish lived to swim another day. you should excerpt the snake/fish bit and put that up as an upload.
@TheMrdavidlangley6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Calvin. I've never seen a snake catch a fish like that before. And uploading that fish excerpt is not a bad idea. I was thinking about that myself. Take care of yourself Calvin and have a nice day.

What is wrong with the john boat capt? Why does he keep drifting 600 ft back behind the tow boat before it dawns on him that he needs to go the other way? Racking my brain as to why he keeps doing that?
@TheMrdavidlangley5 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. Talk about milking it!
@tonyrichno43924 жыл бұрын
My guess is that he wants to keep the bow into the current. With those full sized boys and all that luggage on there, that little boat is awfully heavy with next to no freeboard and squared off sides. His last trip out, with just two guys and not a lot of luggage, he was much more aggressive cutting across.

What was "kinda gay"? David, you never heard a train on the riverfront before? ("What the heck was that?")
@TheMrdavidlangley6 жыл бұрын
Hello Richard. Just having a little fun on the video. Yes, I know that was a train. I have an extreme sense of humor. Many years of watching The Andy Griffith Show and Gunsmoke. Yes, Gunsmoke is somewhat of a comedy at times. And when I saw the guy, who runs the fuel dock for KIDD FUELS, slap that other man on his butt. Well, the only thing that came to mind was - "that was kinda gay". Just funnin'. Can't be serious all the time. I had fun putting this video together. I love the comparison between September 28 and October 12. Thanks for watching Richard. You have yourself a nice day sir.
@richardstuckmeyer80706 жыл бұрын
LOL...I didn't mean it to sound sarcastic, David. I was having a little fun too. I truly know that you knew it was a train, I just liked the way you said, "What the heck was that?" I still watch, and LOVE, The Andy Griffith Show. I missed that part where the Kidd Fuels guy slapped the other guy on the butt, thanks for explaining it. You're welcome, David and right back atcha my friend.

That john boat looks way to small to have both of those motors on the back
@TheAfterWorkGarage5 жыл бұрын
I feel like that's the difference between how things are "supposed" to be used, and how they actually get used when it's just something to help get the job done. In fast currents around big boats extra power is definitely a safety feature.

Mr. Langley Sir perhaps you should brush up on your lingo and learn more about life on the Mississippi. Just saying. I've spent my whole life on and around the Mississippi River and Tow Boats. Great work, pay and food if you like working for 30 days straight. Oh and in regards to your last comment before the cook fiasco. Nice, showing a real lack of class with that comment. Just saying again.

On merchant ships, oceans that is, we call that a crew change and not a shift change. When we are working we are on watch. It seems that the river tow boat industry has a somewhat different language from ocean going vessels. Can you post some videos from the interior spaces? I am a retired engineer. I sure would like to see the engine room and other related machinery spaces on one of those tow boats.

Proper credentials: TWIC Card. Transportation Workers Identification Card. This is what I do for a living at 363 LMR where the Mississippi runs wide. I could have done the crew change in 20 minutes but I run a 32 foot cabin boat w)500hp. Much safer than a skiff change. Notice that lil skiff was sitting mighty low in the stern once loaded. I cringe but that was a calm day and not much current. I do crew changes, emergency transport, groceries...anything needed midstream on-the-fly. 90% of my work is done on the go. They don't stop. That took way to long but not my.business. Midstreamers are on call 24/7-365. I haven't been off call in 8 years by choice. This River is my life.
@connork53393 жыл бұрын
@@EddieRobertsRiverGypsy Have a good watch Eddie. Your mentioning of TWIC reminds me of when I got my first TWIC Card. My fingers were so worn from the engine room that the scanner had a hell of a time reading my finger prints. Finally got a good scan after many tries. Stay safe.
