Wow, this video was absolutely phenomenal! Not only did you get a lot of really incredible footage but you explained the process in a very humorous way with the subtitles. Great achievement, I’m very proud of you! So proud in fact that I bought 20 bundles of rebar, extra thick to use as garden stakes! This factory was very impressive for its automation and efficiency. It genuinely seems as if they are trying to reduce their environmental impact where possible. I cannot imagine how much this factory costs to build lots of engineering and expertise for sure. Their workwear is not cheap and it would probably cost a lot to ship to Canada.

A few things stand out to me: 1. The rolling mill uses a square-diamond-square shape sequence during reduction. I've heard of it but never seen it - most mills seem to use the round-oval-round sequence. 2. The practice of roughing down a whole billet at a time and then passing two of them at once through the finishing mill. Again, more modern mills will reduce one billet in the roughing and intermediate mills, then form the bar into a peanut shape and slit the bar into two, or three or four bars. 3. The thing shown at 15:00 is called a looper, it's for tension management in the mill. Steel being rolled tends to behave like a big rubber band and the looper allows this tension to be managed. Our loopers have position sensors mounted above them that tell the mill computers how big the loop is and the speeds of the rolling stands are then adjusted automatically to keep the loop height realtively constant.

My first job was as maintenance worker in a factory that made silicone metal and those huge electrodes. A few years later I worked in a ship yard where we once modified a ship, using those long billets as ballast, a friend and I got the evenin shift cutting the billets into cubes, good thing the forman liked us cos he could have given us the job of stacking the cubes in the hull.
