A sad and depressing sight. Years of great service and they end up striped of their name plates, dirty with faded paintwork. Iconic BRITISH locomotives! They don't make them like that anymore. When the HST's end up on the line that will be just as upsetting All great locos will end up as scrap. :-(

Such a sad moment for such iconic British designed and built locomotives.

Has anyone ever thought that some of these diesel locomotives could’ve had a longer career?

Considering how many 37s and 47s are still around, probably... although with widespread electrification we had too many

I spotted from mid 74 until 81. Even after that I would still be disappointed if a train I was travelling on was pulled by a class 40 or 47. Now I would love the chance to be pulled by those types again. Its true - you don't know what you've got until it's gone!!

Does anyone know roughly how much an old 47,31,or old diesel loco would cost to buy. Would love to get one and redesign the interior into living space ,although not what these magnificent machines should be doing but it surely beats the scrapyard

What livery is the class 31 in red black and white livery? Doesn't look like a familiar BR livery, also what number did it have and or name? Brilliant video but sad to see such beautiful locos being scrapped thanks

Yes, handbrake still on 31970. Not very professional of the shunting crew but they were going to the scrap line so it probably did not matter.

why scrap all these 08s you divs.now we need them back. shame on you BR.
@stephensmith44806 жыл бұрын
It wasn`t so much BR that scrapped the 08s and 09s. When privatisation came along,most of the new train operating companies just got rid as a cost cutting exercise,where everything was done with a main line traction unit. But thankfully,some are still in use. Alsthom,have just built a new facility at Widnes in cheshire and they have two newly overhauled 08s to service the depot. They look really smart in their new blue livery.
@grahamappleyard61905 жыл бұрын
They were built in the late 50's so it was no surprise to see them scrapped. Also they had a max speed of just 15 mph which meant they were slow getting from place to place and would hold up the line too.
@stephensmith44805 жыл бұрын
@@grahamappleyard6190 They were superb when shunting in yards which they were ideally suited. Its no fun shunting with a main line loco when you are doing numerous moves. I would have an 08 anytime.
