Don't forget the Empire (at the market) and Kino (became Normid) cinemas, I think there was a Palace too that became the C & C supermarket.

Good job, Jan! The large building on the square was the TBO, Town Branch Office, Crewe’s main post office. Regarding the direction the war memorial faces, there are no rules about this, a war memorial can face in any direction. Personally, I think the right decision was to move it to it’s present position. If you remember, every time there was heavy rain the area around the memorial flooded, you could not walk around it’s base, then there was a taxi rank next to it, not really ideal. I do realise that at the time it was an emotive decision to move it, but it looks splendid now. The building in Bridle Road, that was a clothing factory, was originally the LMS, then BR, Paper and Printing works, where all the railway stationery was produced.

Bottom of market Street there was Goslings grocery and across the street was Goughs bicycle shop, Vanity Fayre and a chippy, on the corner near Wrexham terrace was a tyre dept. On Badger Ave just before the ambulance station and clinic their was a Regent petrol station. Hunts removals was near the cemetery gates and don't forget "Market Street Minerals".

Thanks Jan, great video brought back many memories. I remember going to Charlesworth's workshop somewhere near the gasworks. Wasn't there a pond in the middle of Brooklands? Our divi # was 22240, I learned it before I could say Mom or Dad. and you'd be in trouble if you'd forgot to say it and they'd wrote "SOC' (society) on the receipt.
