That area has flooded so many times, this is no surprise. Why would you build a campground in a known flood area? What is Huset’s emergency management plan for the campground?
@beck136517 күн бұрын
Their emergency response plan is to have the police and fire departments respond- at taxpayer expense of course
@astonike838317 күн бұрын
Because it's next to the water??? Have you ever been camping in a state park? A lot of the times the camping areas in a flood plane because people like to camp near water.
@robertgarity17 күн бұрын
@@astonike8383 Do you think the people going to the races are there because they want to enjoy swimming in Split Rock Creek? They are there for the races, and Huset’s had the land so they put campers out there. It’s dangerous and full of risk, and they have liability to those campers.
@astonike838317 күн бұрын
@@robertgarity yeah and it's probably cooler and nicer down by the creek not everything remotely "dangerous" needs to be regulated and bubble wrapped

Probably don't really have one. But the fact that the race track is in a flood plain is probably a good reason why the racetrack is still.even up and running.

Judging by the space, it looks like a lot of people did leave. Quite often people will park their RV at events well ahead of time, so they get a spot, and leave it there. Then come back for the event. That plan bit them in the butt this time.

@jcmjcm194517 күн бұрын
Gross neglect on the RV owners part. They could have moved their campers . If they wanted. There was no excuse for this much insurance claims. If I had heard that the rivers were rising I'd have moved mine regardless.

Too many people think disasters only happen to others

I was watching the Wednesday night race on TV thinking about how high the water in the creek looked. Actually literally thought about the possibility of flooding overnight while watching. I’m 250 miles northeast and getting the same storm systems as Husets a half day later. Something similar happened last week. A country music festival turned into a mud bog and local farmers came to the rescue. We typically only get this kind of flooding in the spring with snow melt. I think they got caught by surprise by late June flooding. It’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenario with big outdoor events. People like camping by lakes and rivers so I can’t fault anyone for that. Bad situation for any outdoor event when we get a summer like this. Management are good people and I trust they will sort things out.

"At least the campers are safe...." Losing an RV like that is losing a huge amount of money. Bad idea to allow people to camp next to that speedway as it is in an area that floods easily. Record-level for Split Rock Creek is 98.47 feet (which was reached in 2014). Anything over 89 feet is action-level flooding. In 2018 the second highest level was reached on this creek when it went to 96.66 feet after 3 inches of rain. Hopefully in the future, people will decide to camp somewhere else when they go to attend that Husks Speedway event.

Take it from someone that has been around for a very long time. Life will be much less frustrating for you if you focus on what you are good at and put that to productive use and stop being angry and envious of what other's enjoy.
