I have changed the Stock CRF 300L Rear Suspension for YSS SHOCK, I test out the bike on the road and on a mx track.

I ordered and replaced my stock fork spring with this one from YSS LO388N0XXS545, it says for riders 75-95kg. It is identical to the stock spring...

I see they make a cartridge fork upgrade kit for the CRF300L that replaces the internals on both sides and adds dampening and springs to both sides. It's also adjustable with adjusting screws on the top caps. That would be cool along with a shock upgrade. I can see the shock works better here. Since the bike has a rising rate linkage on the shock, having it too soft causes it to sink down to where the rate is rising. Get it to sit higher as you did and it should feel more plush on top now and firmer compressed. Better in every way!

I plan on buying the YSS cartridges and rear shock next year. Will finally be my unicorn bike and I'll stop missing my WR250R.

I am thinking about getting either CRF300L Rally or Tenere 700. The price difference is there but becomes less of a factor provided what needs to be upgraded on the Honda. Other factors still remain, like the weight difference, capabilities and looks. Difficult to decide.

Hi, I’m sorry I can’t comment on either the Rally or the Tenere as I haven’t rode either, you’ll have to see if you can find some comparison videos on them. Good luck

Rode the Tenere 700. Do not get it if you plan to do more than 50% offroad. Too heavy for any fun and a hasstle to pick it up from bad spots.

Hi There hope all is well which shock did you get I'm looking at the YSS MG456W Hi-Lo Mono Shock or the YSS MG456 Off-Road piggy-back shock - Did you get any of these or something else With the front I'm going YSS: Item # CO208-900TRC-03 HONDA CRF 300 L 20mm Cartridge Kit $1,095.00 OZ dollars

I did the YSS shock and fork kit. I would not recommend these units if you do a lot of off-roading. The shock works well when cold but fades quickly and bottoms out a lot when hot. When I ordered the fork kit the dealer didn’t mention that the warranty is void if you do the installation yourself. Also there are some special tools needed for the installation that don’t come with the kit.

Did you get the YSS sprung for your weight like I did and also added thicker oil to the forks than recommended, I’m sure I talk about this in a different video or in the description or even this video (it’s been a while since I posted so can’t remember) I found mine perfect and I off-road a lot.
@user-se7vt5ow4e5 ай бұрын
@@nrdbikes i only weigh 65kg and have sag set at 76 mm and over rough ground at speed it bottoms a lot. The fork kit came with 5 wt oil which I might switch out for some 7.5 wt.
@nrdbikes5 ай бұрын
@@user-se7vt5ow4e I changed the fork oil to 15w as recommended by the seller of the forks to slow down the damping, I’m only 50kg and got the suspensions sprung for my weight with gear on, never had it bottom out even on fair sized jumps, I also set up the preload and sag for my weight.
@nrdbikes5 ай бұрын
If anything this oil was probably too thick for my weight as I never compressed the forks enough to even come close to bottoming it out, it all worked so well, I loved how it rode. See more recent videos after this one on how it handles. I wouldn’t give up on it yet, thicker oil is worth a try.
@user-se7vt5ow4e5 ай бұрын
@@nrdbikes Thanks I will give it a try. It is sprung for my weight but bottoms out entirely too much. I had KYB suspension on my last bike (WR450) that rarely bottomed out and when it did it was a soft bottom.

What does your seat height come to after installing the YSS shock? I'm considering the same upgrade, but wondering if I should go their 30mm shorter shock to keep the seat height manageable. Cheers.
@nrdbikes11 ай бұрын
If I’d known at the time they did a shorter shock I would have gone with that but I managed, I have a video on my channel how the shock changed the seat height, it will be around the same time as this video. Hope it helps 👍
@nickthatcher416811 ай бұрын
@@nrdbikes ah yep, found it. Around a 20mm height increase over stock. Not too bad. Do you have the preload backed right off to achieve that?
@nrdbikes11 ай бұрын
@@nickthatcher4168 I can’t remember in this video what it was set too but I know it was set up for my weight the preload and sag.

Hi how tall are you? I want to buy a YSS for my wife's CRF 300L..
@nrdbikes2 жыл бұрын
Hi I’m 5’4” with a 29” inseam - the bike stock is perfect as the suspension compresses enough to be manageable, with the YSS it does make the bike sit a couple inches taller as it doesn’t compress much, I can just about get a toe down on one side so I shift half my butt of the seat when I come to a stop. I manage - it’s just a case of getting used to it.
@FC-pf2xv2 жыл бұрын
@@nrdbikes ok, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately my wife is only 5.1 so she is ok with standard suspension but she will have a problem with YSS. May i can manage the situation with a lower seat. The standard suspension is orrible we need to upgrade for sure. Thanks you again!
@nrdbikes2 жыл бұрын
@@FC-pf2xv maybe get the YSS and a lowering link? Whatever you choose I hope it works out for you, respect to your Wife for riding the CRF.

@@nrdbikes yes maybe a lowering link but I prefer to not change the motorbike sizes. Anyways we will see, the important things is to change the standard suspension. This is the first step.😉👍🏻

Did you change the oil in both fork legs & what weight oil did you use?
@nrdbikes2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I used the original oil from the fork that the new spring went in and I used a new 15w oil in the other fork. Hope that answered your question.
@petermorrow43102 жыл бұрын
@@nrdbikes Hi, how much oil did you use in the damping side, I can only find details for the 250l forks...which are different 🤔
@nrdbikes2 жыл бұрын
@@petermorrow4310 it was just over 500ml of the 15w oil and the oil in the other fork was poured out, saved and put back in with the new spring.
