When Honda designed this bike in particular they wanted to make starting it up a workout to keep the rider in shape.. they done an excellent job with it as you can see the rider is knackered. A few more starts and he’ll be ready to ride. The exhaust doubles as a wheelie bar too.

4-5 pumps on the throttle before kicking with choke full out it would've fired up 1st /2nd time. He must enjoy the kick start ! Always keep an eye on the hot start plunger often it jams and remains stucko in carb ,occasionally pull it out clean and lube ensure it's working fine with cable and fully returns .Saves many kicks ;-)

It not been used for best part of 14yr, didnt clean carb or anything! Once it started, it started 1-2 kicks after that, although i've not been on it in over a year. Kids take up too much time

Gently push kick start down until it feels still stiff, then lift it up and kick it. Its called finding TDC, trust me it will save you so many kicks.

once it starts just let it run a few minutes to warm up, no throttle.

She has plenty of comp, she's a power house and starts first/second kick now. it had been stood for over a decade forgotten about in the deepest cavity of my shed!....she's almost 20 now, i was a young man when i bought it! I got the starting procedure down now! Cheers mate
