Crime and Welfare: Two Myths of Immigration | Intellections

Two common myths in the United States about immigration are that more immigrants lead to more crime and more people on welfare. But a closer look reveals that these objections are misguided. In terms of crime, native-born Americans are far more likely to commit crimes than either legal or illegal immigrants. Moreover, federal government benefits are prohibited or delayed for illegal and legal immigrants.

Everyone’s talking about how they are all illegal but I see no one mentioning how they used incarceration rate to prove they commit less crime and then told us they are mostly not incarcerated for the crimes but instead deported

Incarceration rates is probably not the best stat if one group gets removed and therefore not incarcerated. As for the welfare argument they are also not allowed to have jobs but that doesn't stop them from using stolen social security numbers to do that either

The problem with Germany is that they literally just let everybody in. There were zero background checks, nothing. Worst part, around 97% of “refugees” were males in their 20s. Crime has risen exponentially in the past few years in Germany. I don’t think that it will get as bad as in Germany were women now constantly feel unsafe, because here the Border Patrol does their job (most of the time at least) and we have immigration centers. Where Germany just let them live in normal apartments in the city, without identifying if these people were dangerous or even from the country that they were claiming to be.

So first of all, if they're here illegally, then they have already committed a crime. Secondly if they are not documented then that in itself is a challenge law enforcement has to overcome in order to prosecute leading to less convictions. I imagine trying to find a suspect that was never here in the first place! (I'm sure most Democrat voters will not get that last statement) With that being said. The process to immigrate legally in the US is BROKEN. There is absolutely room to have a conversation about how to fix that. What we need is a conversation about how to make the process better, while securing our borders in the intrest of National security. Stop with the "stealing our jobs" and the "your a racist" BS!

If I were to think of this as a right wing libertarian, I would say it is a numbers game. It is better to take the chance because it is less likely for them to commit crime and you get more economic value out of them than your average American citizen. Children on illegal immigrants that are US citizens are legally entitled to welfare. Hospital emergency rooms are required to treat everyone regardless of immigration status. Illegals often use this service for non-emergencies which they then do not pay for.
