The way her husband treated her was uncalled for. If you lost the passion though, divorce your wife, don’t take on a mistress and then make your wife/husband feel it’s their fault for you not keeping it in your pants. Do we know what happened to Jeanne? I would’ve loved to see the crowd of women cheering Yvonne and booing Jeanne after the verdict. She could have left him or divorced him when she found out . I mean the guy was wrong for creating a d wrong for mental abuse but his actions doesn't make her murder justified at all and she should have been executed for her crime.

@@soa1 she should have been executed for her crime?? Are you for real?? Capital punishment is given to them who aren't capable of rehabilitation and who pose a threat to the society if they're back out free. However, I'm not condoning her actions nor am I trying to justify it. But back in those days women were not treated as they're today. Even if she had filed for a divorce given her background, she would be up against a high profile war hero and a well liked politician. She would've lost the custody of her children. Again, I'm not saying that killing her husband was the only option. But she was left with very few.

I think I understand why she was not imprisoned for murder by the jury. The amount of shame her husband put her through is enough to make anyone lose it. The fact that he didn't care when she said she would kill herself is sad. Also considering the fact that she was a catholic I doubt they could have easily divorced. Yvonne might have not even had custody over her children or any form of income if divorced considering the amount of power her husband had. If this were there case today then I wouldn't be as understanding. Still considering the time and how she was treated I would also have wanted her to be free.

Sounds like a legitimate crime of passion defense, especially if she had to overcome the bias toward her husband within public consciousness. The way she lived out the remainder of her life is actually testament to her authenticity, and would be a happy medium for anyone that admits to a crime like hers and mounts a reasonable defense, bc they’ve still acted with impropriety. Acording to the French Law, back then, if someone killed her/his husband or wife after they have a "non consented extramarital affair" (by the spouse) in the shared property or the home of the spouse, and it was comited in a rage of hot temper, it wasn't considered guilty, as it was an offense on the honor, a heart break, and a situation who was not controlled by the person in the moment in wich he/she commited the crime. However, all the welth and properties of the deceased partner remained in her or his family, and under any circumstance the assassin could heredate the money of the deceased, besides any civil or military decoration become forbidden as well as serving in the government or the army, unless in a conscript unit. So it wasn't so "free" but understandable, (look at her, she went to serve in a colony to help the people, and didn't got the money).

Just a small point of fact. The 'court' in the form of the judiciary and representative of the power structure, was anxious to make an example of her, perhaps seeing their possible fate in that of her philandering husband. It was in fact the jury, not the court, which found her not guilty. Its perhaps a fine distinction, but still, I think, worthy of note if for no other reason that judges, particularly of that time in France and England where the story had gained much traction, have always been notorious for inserting their class, race, and gender prejudices into the business of the courts and the administration of the law.

I don't blame her I felt the same way the way he tormented her mentally and emotionally knowing that she was devoted to him entirely and they were very much in love to begin with for him to be so so sliding to her so just dismissive to her when she is so clearly devoted I could see where it drove her to madness and the son of a b**** just didn't have a decency to you know either end it or end the relationship that he's in you know so little decency he was manipulating her and then he'd have been a manipulator as a politician I think people just saw it for what it was no matter how much the hungry the prosecution was for a win I guess but I absolutely felt like not that it was righteous in killing him but the son of a b**** was playing with fire man the way he just walked all over her left and right without a care so cavalier it's no wonder he brought it on himself the love of a woman is nothing to be trifled with how about that
@WeAreNotAmused
@WeAreNotAmused 2 жыл бұрын
I'm a man and I absolutely thought that husband was tormentative and trifling to say the very least But to say he played with fire doesn't even approach the profound befuddling betrayal he perpetrated on a devoted woman who. He originally won her heart legitimately and to leave one you had held as beloved and has been your loyal companion only to be discarded like a used item but remaining married and leaving her to linger in the emptiness left behind I can only imagine the confounding nature of such betrayal could send one twirling down and spiraling into madness he was an arrogant piece of shiza and his unmitigated gall and continued to rebuff the earnest attempt to stoke the fire back he was beyond asinine how cavalier he was to think every day you piss down somebody's neck and believe that nothing will ever come of it. And that the toxicity he created ultimately caused his death. A woman's true love and devotion is not something to trifle with This is actually a fitting and. Pointed end of the narrative he got just what he had a coming

Yup! Murder, totally acceptable! Truly boggles the mind that you openly condone murder. No respect for law; just the all important FEELINGS, which trump any human rights. His children lost their only father. What about his parents, siblings, good friends? All of them subject to the greatest pain & disruption of life, for her revenge. And he lost his entire life! Imagine the chaos we'd live in, if people like you were allowed to legalize revenge murder. "Your honor, I THOUGHT he was cheating!" "Oh, let her go..." (woman inherits all). I bet you're a left wing, defund the police, open federal borders to all comers, let 3 year olds choose hormone therapy, (ironically, anti capital punishment) Democrat. If I am right: God you people give me the creeps. You have no sympathy for anyone's civil rights when they oppose your own feelings. In short: you are exceedingly shortsighted and exhibit the lowest type of intellect - sacrificing impartiality for self gratification. I think voters should have to pass a qualifying exam on the nature of a republican democracy, as we have established, & civil rights. Because you don't appear to understand basic rights. Edit: No, cheating isn't ok. But it's more ok than state sanctioned murder!

If this took place today, it wouldn't have been manslaughter. It would've been a second degree murder, since in manslaughter your indirect actions cause the loss of life. However in this case, her actions were direct but it was due to immense emotional distress and provocation. But there was this slight time frame between her thinking of killing herself and then shooting her husband which counts as malice aforethought (she knew shooting her husband would kill him). And for an action to be murder malice aforethought is very important. It would've been manslaughter if she would've fought with him and in doing so killed him. Because usually when two individuals are fighting they do not think the final result would be death of one. (This is the reason why boxers and military people are held accountable even if they just fought, because they're trained professionals). But when a gun is involved you're sure that shooting someone with it surely kills them. So, even if it took a fraction of a second for her to change her mind from shooting herself to shooting her husband, she did infact thought of it this proving malice aforethought. Sorry if this was lengthy.

I mean she wasn't a danger to others so I probably wouldn't be afraid of her being free. However it does take a certain something to actually pull the trigger. Not everyone has it in them to cross that line. She definitely deserved prison. But I sympathized with her plight as well.

He fell in love with an intense woman and that intensity didn't just go away when he got bored. I don't think he deserved to die for cheating, but people are responsible for the situations they put themselves in and when you attach yourself to an extreme person (crazy in the head, crazy in the bed, type fun) you are subject to their extremes. Which is why I won't let people like that get close to me - having been fooled in the past. It is SO not worth it.

Her husband sounded like a prick and a horrible husband. She still killed him so she's guilty, the not guilty verdict doesn't seem quite right but honestly her husband was abusive and she seemed trapped in a situation she didn't have an easy way out, especially in that time period so I empathize. She's still guilty though. She never did hurt anyone else though or make a habit of any criminal activity so it didn't really become an issue that she got off.
