My mam loved crimewatch and looked forward to it every month. She always said she'd love to help catch a murderer. One day, after crime watch had been on the previous evening, she came in from work saying she'd seen some man who was subject to a national manhunt after commiting two murders... he'd supposedly been in the queue in front of her for the 254 from middlesbrough to guisborough. We told her she was being daft but she rang the police and told them she'd seen the man, despite our family finding it hilarious. It became even funnier when he was caught the next day 200 miles away having never been anywhere near middlesbrough. She still insisted it was him. My mam will now be up there in heaven, still meddling and causing bother

@@Thenorthsace Honestly infuriates me when I see comments like the ones you are replying to, mate. Especially how they make up their own bullshit to frame it. "Allowed out until midnight"? Not once in the reconstruction or following details do they say the kid was ALLOWED out until that time. Did the people writing this never disobey their parents? Well bully for them if they didnt, but lots of us did/do. And like you said regarding Wayne; his mum thought he was at his dad's.

A couple of these cases really ubderline how paedophiles operate. The murder of Wayne Taylor illustrated how they often target kids from chaotic families. Their parents are not protecting them and it makes them easy prey. What chance would a 9 year old out on the street late at night have against an adult. We saw similar things with other child victims like Jason Swift. The second case here with Leonard Matthews in Great Yarmouth showed how amusement arcades were a hotspot for paedophiles. They provided a steady stream of kids, often also from poor or chaotic backgrounds. Places like Great Yarmouth, Blackpool and Brighton have had serious paedophile problems as a result, and the west end of London had a series of scandals in the 70s and 80s. Great Yarmouth gained further notoriety in 2003 with the disappeaeance of Daniel Entwhistle. It uncovered a large number of paedophiles living and operating in the area. Daniel's dad was also a convicted paedophile and was believed to have moved the family to Great Yarmouth to link up with other paedophiles he'd met previously.

redcard - much as I appreciate you efforts, I think you've published the description of "Crimewatch UK May 1990" here - and vice-versa. May 1990 reads: "Sue Cook and Nick Ross present cases including the murder of Wayne Taylor in Brixton, London, the robbery of the Midland Bank in Merseyside and a country lane attack in Norfolk." Which accurately describes THIS episode (June 1990). Everyone's allowed the occasional error, though. :-)

To everyone saying 'Why are 9 and 11 year old's out until midnight anyway?' Just remember, this was a different time.

Jen your completely correct it was a different time. People keep asking why youngsters are out late at night maybe a better quistion is why are people snatching and abusing kids don't blame the kids or parents they aren't actually the ones doing anything wrong.Rant over and out
