Nick Ross and Sue Cook present. Cases include the murder of Lionel Webb, a rape in Tunbridge Wells and a robbery in Middlesbrough.
I cannot find currently February 1989. However, I do know the case of the murder of Keith Burgess in Bristol is on youtube at: • 1989 12 17 Burgess murder

I think while watching this episode in 1989, my mum told me when the rapes reconstruction came on that I shouldn’t be watching this and sent me to bed. I was 11 at the time but watching these uploads since the first one from 84 reminded me I was watching every single episode from summer 85 at least and we would often sit and watch it as a family as I can remember some if the comments my mum and brother would make. For example, the robbery at Surrey University in which a Renault Fuego was stolen, my brother said “Asking for it if they left the keys in it” and the arson in Northampton where the son of the family was watching Castle Keep, my mum said “ I was watching that film”. Going through these is a bit like reliving my childhood.

My mum wouldn't let us watch Grange Hill when we were very young-but had no problems with CrimeWatch a few years later. Anyway this case was finally solved in 2005-the guy had been arrested as part of Operation Ore in 2004 for downloading indecent images of children, his DNA was taken as a result & then matched to this crime. Seems he had never been in any trouble with the police. theukdatabase.com/2012/05/08/david-kirby-tunbridge-wells-eastbourne/

The Lionel Webb murder remains unsolved. He had some very heavy connections. Police believe however that it was drugs related. A quantity of drugs were found in the safe where he worked and at his home. It was reported "Lionel Webb was alleged to have been part of a gang of armed robbers operating out of Birmingham in the 1980s working for criminals that later went on to run large international drug operations stretching as far as Panama." Apparently as security became much tighter, armed robbery became much more difficult and many armed robbers moved into drugs. Lionel Webb appears to have been one of them.

Assume Feb was a typo and the missing episode is Apr’89 (although I don’t believe Keith Burgess is featured until March 1990 - could be wrong though). If Apr 89 is missing that features the murder of Michael Fahy who was a vagrant killed in the St Paul’s area of Bristol (a real no-go zone after dark in those days). Was quite looking forward to seeing that one as I’m from the Westcountry myself but Fahy’s murder is another one that remains unsolved.

It helps, when attempting to crack a bbc scripted joke, that cue cards are read aloud without fluffing the words. Better still, avoid completely.
