The removals lorry was stolen for the contents and was most probably an inside job . Whoever was working there or a friend waited until there was a quality load of furniture and then struck . Between the end of WW ll and about 2005, lorries were often stilen for the export market . There was also good money to be made buying unroadworthy lorries and exporting them , as many countries have less stringent standards of what's considered roadworthy . The body would be taken off and scrapped or resprayed and resold . The cab and chassis would have a line sprayed down the chassis and then be cut into 3 sections . The next chassis would have a different colour sprayed on the chassis . This allowed the mechanics at the other end to differentiate which truck parts were for which truck . Upon arrival in India or Pakistan the trucks would be welded back together and put back into service . A truck chassis is very heavy and awkward to identify when jammed into a shipping container , so thousands of lorries were exported in this fashion . The other reason they cut the chassis into 3 parts was to avoid import tax whe the shipping container arrived at its destination . More modern lorries are generally stolen for parts or put to straight work in dodgier parts of Europe . The multitude of computers and sensors make partial dismatling and subsequent reassembly more difficult and much easier to identify . Modern tracking systems, many of which alert the owner if the truck deviates off the planned route , plus ANPR cameras have almost completely stopped truck thefts when the intention is to steal for parts . Lorry hijacking in order to steal the load still occurs on occasion . So if the furniture lorry had never been found again , it would probably have been stolen for export , but as it was and presumably not missing any major ( expensive ) parts , it was stolen for the contents .

The Bonnie and Clyde seem crazy. The whole story, no shop assistants being suspicious, bizarre behaviour like wanting to swap clothes in the middle of it, then shouting, "Don't tell anyone" as she was getting on to the train. Making a scene like that.
