Barely started the video but man Reid's takedown of the disgusting doctor dad at the end is one of the best moments of the show

To add on for the sentencing stuff, I think the dolls can be used in a therapeutic setting. She doesn't need to have them 24/7, but I think she's spent most of her life with them and can't really function without. Obviously like you said, being that dependent isn't a good thing, but idk I think her dad fucked her up too much.

Dolls symbolize innocence and childhood, especially for S.A. victims whom they think they lost their 'innocence', dolls are important. i wonder maybe thats why child molesters steal toys from children, they think they 'steal the innocence' of children, like some kind of control, ugh. in samantha s case, she might never fully heal, like never not attach to her dolls or even she heals one day, right now, she needs her dolls. and i believe/would like to believe in reid with his promise so hopefully they better not take her dolls. anyway she definitely needs help because while she knew this was wrong thing to do, her brain is unable to see the difference between dead-alive and object-human, this is another one of those cases when criminal is just a victim, like the case, if victims werent/arent saved and turn out to troublemaker and ironically, by solving her case, they find the real 'bad guy'. i love when reid and others empathize with criminals because honestly, most of them deserve it. this episode is so well written, i love this.

I find it a little funny that you don't think she'd be able to keep the dolls when we've seen in another episode in season 3 "True Night" that he was able to keep his phone and keep calling his fiance's phone. Also, this episode has one of my favorite Reid moments when he's confronting the doctor. Also, I love his ability to see her as a victim who needs help as well as the criminal who needs to be put away. I've loved your reactions for a while and I'm so happy you're reacting to Criminal Minds and Bones as they're two of my favorite shows.

He is in a mental institution just a few days after the events of the episode treatment would probably involve having him treat the ptsd from that night and not relying on the voicemail message. So ideal treatment for this unsub would probably also involve trying to remove the dependence on the dolls. Unless they come back for some reason we don't get to know what happened to the unsubs

Just as an aside, forensic psychiatry has a goal of rehabilitation, not imprisonment. There is no sentencing in forensic psych patients, they stay in hospital until they are discharged having been deemed no longer a greater risk to themselves or others than anyone else on the street. This process usually takes many years and involves patient centred care for each patient. This person probably would be allowed to keep the dolls until she decided she no longer needs them as it would be cruel and unproductive for her healing to take them away without good reason because that would distress her and make healing impossible. (I'm a medical student with specific intesets in forensics and I've been on placement to the forensic unit near where I live)

Giving her the dolls may not help but with how far she is into her delusions, taking away the dolls would do more to hurt her, in fact it may cause another break. I’m expecting supervised play with her dolls, keeping a constant ache for when she can see her dolls would definitely allow her a more calm existence

My favorite episode of the entire series! It works as a great entry episode for first-time viewers, since it has excellent profiling that isn’t hard to follow, but doesn’t have any gore. But, for long-time watchers, especially Reid fans, it is 20 times better. This episode is allll about Reid. You have chess, you have the rare Gideon reference and what his leaving did to Reid, you have the not-too-subtle reference to Reid’s mom with Samantha being a mentally disadvantaged girl victimized (which horrifies Reid to the point where his pacing around the room has clued in Hotch that Reid is about to blow-that’s why he sends Rossi with him, to try and moderate the boiling Reid). You have the very subtle shout-out to Reid’s deadbeat dad with that final quote being from Asimov, the elder Reid’s favorite writer. MGG just nails his performance here. That gentleness with Samantha at the end was beautiful to see. I love the good cop/bad cop routine with Rossi, and the evil Doctor Daddy Frakes getting bamboozled when he obviously is thinking that Rossi is the threat, but it is Reid who takes him out with the power of his mind. Just good stuff all around!

I do not see the harm and I can see it as a benefit for her to have those dolls. They would become a therapy tool for her. If she will never get mentally better why not let her have some dolls to help her cope with life, and give her a small amount of joy especially if she is to be locked up for the rest of her life. If with therapy she can get better, I see that if they work with her where SHE decides to let the dolls go, or can see a life that they do not become the most important thing in life for her, and not someone taking them away from her she may in time be able to get back to society.

In cases like this I would personally rather the father be sentenced to prison (in general population) because being put to death would be the "easy" way out compared to what other inmates would do to him once they found out his charges. Also there is no reason not to let the woman keep the dolls. They help keep her more sane and less likely to be combative in the mental institution she desperately needs to be in. It would be the same as taking a favorite toy or binky from a toddler or young child. She is a young child in a womans body because of the physical and emotional abuse she suffered at the hands of her father.
@SimpleReactions
@SimpleReactions Жыл бұрын
And how would that help the other inmates? Instead of turn the prison system into the failure it already is. Being too mentally dependent on something is not okay. Keeping them would hurt her in her journey of improvement. I'm almost certain many doctors would have the goal of separating that dependency. Not immediately but that would be the end goal.

I really hate and love episodes where i feel bad for the unsub...sure you can say it is not okay to murder someone under any circumstances but technically she didn't ...anyway she went through shock therapy and got raped by her father but she still didn't harm anyone not until he took her dolls away, so yeah she and her dolls should just live in a mental hospital, end of story.

This is one of those episodes that just had a lasting impression on me. I always remember it. Maybe because we are so used to seeing such violent crimes on this show, this one hits differently? I don't know. Yeah ECT is a controversial one. Its still used today, at least in Canada (Where I hale from). Im not sure about the states but presumably it is. Im certainly no advocate for the procedure, but I think it has such a bad reputation due to its overuse in the 1950s and subsequent decades, usually without consent (In these instances, calling it torture would be accurate), but it has been successful for the majority of patients prescribed it. For the father to do that to his daughter was terrible, and I particularly liked seeing Reid get his ass.
@xkindredxsoulsxxx4195
@xkindredxsoulsxxx4195 23 күн бұрын
I think it's still used in the states too, but I'm no expert. I was under the impression that not only is it more sparingly used today, but more carefully. Like they were a lot more likely to do damage with it in the past because they would frequently use too strong a current or shock too many times. They've gotten more precise now. And correct me if I'm wrong but I think they also use it to treat medical conditions as well as psychological. Don't remember what, but there is something they use it on. Maybe seizures?...

Can you excute someone for a sex crime? Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't death penalties reserved for murders and everything else is either prison time, prison for life or institutionalisation? I'm aware that back in the day there was all kinds of crime that they'd execute you for. I know for example there was this one guy that they had hanged over a train robbery even though no one died. And back then it was more used as a way of scaring the average person to not break the law if it could cost you your time in this world. But now a days the death sentence just seems to be for murders. I'm not trying to defend the father I agree he's scum. But I'd think the real life law would be interested in finding a body under his name before they'd agree to have him killed if not they likely just give him life in prison and call it a day. Let me know.

I remembered this episode. Its one of my favourites along with a few others we have yet to see, but one is in this season. Its just tragic how everything happened here to both the unsub and her victims and the other child victims from her father. Death, I say is too merciful for him but it is effective ridding the progenitor of evil cuz thats what he is. The trauma he unleashed on her and his victims will never got away, but from him it wont happen again if he's dead. Imo
