Daniel Craig is the WORST 007 ever. It's like watching a dentist doing a root canal. Boring, creepy, not fun at all. He should have stuck to Shakespearian dramas. Any of the previous James Bonds are much better. In every way. Funnier, sexier, wild stunts, cool villains and story, much better gadgets, just more fun and entertaining all around. D. Craig is NOT James Bond. A low grade imposter.

To answer your query. Bond’s parents died in a climbing accident leaving him an orphan. Go back to Casino Royale, to the scene on the train, where Vesper mentioned orphans! And her jibe about being brought up by someone else’s benevolence. This is a massive hint to towards the next two films. Bond’s parents gravestone was seen outside the church at Skyfall. Now about the old Aston Martin you saw. To learn about the origins between Bond and his attachment to the greatest car marque in the world, ( ok my own personal opinion ) will become apparent when you go back to Bond movie number three! You’ve done Dr No, you will know all in film number three. Loving you doing this series. Keep on Coby. xx

@matthewschafer63598 ай бұрын
Other commenters have mentioned that "Q" and "M" refer to titles and not people, Judi Dench's character being "M" is a nod to the real history of British Intelligence. In 1909 England created the "Secret Service Bureau" (which later became both MI-5 and MI-6) which handled foreign intelligence in response to the events that would become WW1. The first chief of the SSB was Sir Mansfield Cumming, who's surname was Smith but took his wife's name when they got married. When Cumming signed documents he signed them with a big underlined "C" in green ink. Because of this he became known as "C" and this tradition has carried on in MI-6 with all chiefs having the code name "C" and signing using green ink. Bond was created in the 1950's by British author Ian Fleming who was a former officer in British Naval Intelligence. Fleming was an avid bird watcher so he took the name James Bond from a famous ornithologist, he liked the name because it sounded dull. In the books a "00" is a special designation for a select group of special agents who have been given a license to kill. His code number, 007, is a reference to most important achievement in British Military Intelligence which was the breaking of Germany's diplomatic code during WW1. Fleming based Bond largely on himself, which is where Bond gets his love of gambling, and his time working in intelligence; other inspirations were various real life spies and a wealthy well-traveled playboy racecar driver.
@SelvesteSand7 ай бұрын
Another one of his inspirations was his cousin Sir Christopher Lee. Besides Lee's history in special forces, there's also the resemblance: Fleming's own drawing of James Bond looks like a drawn copy of a photograph of Lee in his youth.
@Aeroldoth33 ай бұрын
What does 007 have to do with, I assume you're referring to, Turing's cracking the code?
@matthewschafer63593 ай бұрын
@@Aeroldoth3 It refers to British intelligence breaking German's diplomatic code during WW1 which was considered one of the greatest achievements in intelligence history. Britian intercepted the infamous "Zimmerman Telegram" which was a coded message from Germany to Mexico. The telegram was sent twice using two different German codes 13040 and 0075. 13040 was an older code that Britian had already broken some time ago but 0075 was a newer code they hadn't broken yet. British code breakers were able to break 0075 because of the Zimmerman Telegram allowing Britian to read German messages and led to the US entering WW1. Flemming using the number 007 was a deliberate reference to the famous WW1 German 0075 code and the deciphering of the Zimmerman Telegram.

Moneypenny is M's secretary and she and Bond never sleep together. She was played by the late Lois Maxwell in the first 14 James Bond films. In the two films in which Timothy Dalton was Bond, Moneypenny was played by Caroline Bliss, who also played Diana Spencer in a television film from the early 80's about the start of the relationship between Diana and Prince Charles. In the Pierce Brosnan era of Bond, Moneypenny was played by Samantha Bond. And I loved seeing the late Albert Finney as Kincaid. @garyclarke96858 ай бұрын
Need to think about what your saying there regarding the box office. Bond first came out in the 60's so how can the majority of bond films make 1 billion. Inflation prices you know so that doesn't impress me what does is the high attendance to see a bond movie not the money it makes.
@15blackshirt8 ай бұрын
@@garyclarke9685 I doubt the majority of moviegoers and box office predictors expected a Bond film to gross $1 billion, especially since none of its predecessors came even close. The only time grossing $1billion isn't impressive is when it's necessary for a movie to break even. Without adjusting for inflation, no movie grossed $1 billion until Titanic did so in 1997, which then was finally surpassed over a decade later
@garyclarke96858 ай бұрын
@@15blackshirt if you adjust for inflation then the most successful films were around decades ago with gone with the wind being number 1. It doesn't impress me when movies today gross hundreds of millions or exceed a billion as ticket prices are high which is why you hear of so many movies making this target of 1 billion doesn't mean all that many people went to see it not compared to old movies. I just don't like this tag line when a movie critic or reviewer says this film released today say for example one of the marvel movies that it is the highest grossing or 2nd or 3rd "of all time" the line in inverted comma's is a bloody stupid thing to say.

@andrewroberts2998 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed this one, Coby. Miss Moneypenny was featured in some of the Fleming Bond books. She was M’s personal Secretary (as she is here now as Mallory’s Secretary.) There wasn’t the sexual puns between Bond and Moneypenny in the books - that was invented for the films, going way back to the very start with Dr. No (1962.) M in the Fleming books was Admiral Sir Miles Messervy (hence his surname beginning with ‘M’) and although we didn’t learn Judi Dench’s M’s surname in the films, we can assume it also began with an M, as does the new M, with Mallory. I think Skyfall is Craig’s 2nd best Bond, after CR. I thought when QoS came out it was the worst Bond film ever, but Skyfall made up for it somewhat, and then the series went backwards for me with Craig’s last two films. I would put them joint worst Bond films for reasons I can’t go into here, but to say I was massively disappointed would be an understatement! I had a few niggles with Skyfall, but the one I hated the most was Bond having an ancestral home. In the books, Bond’s parents weren’t wealthy, and after their deaths, the orphan Bond went to stay with his aunt who looked after him and helped him to complete his schooling and then his university education. Personally I would have preferred it if Skyfall had been an orphanage that Bond had stayed at, after his parents death, but before he went to live with his aunt. I think that would have been a lot more believable than what we actually got.

When reading the comments, you can see the density of the 007 character, why the franchise has so much longevity. As said by many, the ideal would be to watch the other previous films before Daniel Craig's last two to be in context and appreciate the outcomes more. Of course, recent films have many refinements of sophisticated action and visual effects that are only possible with current technology, but this does not take away the brilliance of previous films that already had locations in various places around the world, always accompanied by unique and appropriate soundtracks, supported by its theme song. Even with some changes in relation to the books, they all helped to create the 'magic' that is clearer in the last two Daniel Craig films that you will understand when you watch them.

If you look closely an inscribed box following her death, reveals her name to be Olivia Mansfield. She was such a good M. And a thing that I read it, Bond, always ask for martini shaken, not stirred. Apparently the reason he does that is because when you have a martini shaken and not stirred, when you stir a martini, the ice, the water, and the alcohol mix together. When you shake a martini, the water sits on top of the alcohol, so he's only sipping water pretending to get drunk. Yes. He waters it down. He's such a good spy. Hey Coby! In the novels, after his parents died in a climbing accident, Bond went to live with his aunt Charmaine in a town called 'Pett Bottom' in Canterbury. I kid you not. The Skyfall back story was created for the movie. If you ever read the novels you'll be VERY disappointed. Movie Bond is NOTHING like book Bond. Just for trivia's sake, M in the Connery/Moore/Bond flicks is named Admiral Sir Miles Messervy. Judy Dench's M is either Barbara Mawdsley or Olivia Mansfield, depending on the movie novelization. Ralph Fiennes' M is Gareth Mallory. See the pattern? Apparently you can't be the head of MI6 unless your last name starts with 'M'. P.S. I adore you!

Hi Kobe I'll give you a little background on M in the Bond lore. This could be long as there's some historical information. "M" in the Bond universe is a codename given to the cheif of the British Secret Intelligence Service or as it's colloquially known "MI6". Ian Fleming who was the author of the Bond novels had a previous career in British intelligence. His giving the head of MI6 was a little bit of inside tongue and cheek. In the real life MI6 the chief is given the codename "C" which is often thought to mean 'Cheif' however the original head of MI6 was a man named Mansfield Cumming and the C was the just the initial of his last name and the tradition stuck after Cumming left the post. Fleming's little inside joke was to give the head of MI6 the codename 'M' as it's the initial of Mansfield Cumming's first name. M has been portrayed by 4 actors in the official Bond canon. Bernard Lee, Robert Brown, Judi Dench, and Ralph Finnes. Edward Fox also portrays Bond in the non canon movie Never Say Never Again.

if you havent seen the bourne series, theyd be a great follow up...theyre bond'esque, but feel more rooted in reality
@davewhitehead51168 ай бұрын
I read where they made Bond a deeper character to compete with the popular Bourne character.
@foreignmilk8 ай бұрын
@@davewhitehead5116 yeah, it was for sure. at least one of the bournes had come out and it made an impact on how they went forward with the daniel craig bond series. i remember reading that in several different articles where the bond writers acknowledged that bourne had taken spy action thrillers into a new era.

The character of Q who supplies the gadgets to 007 in the classic movies of the era of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Lazemby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, was always an older man, so the joke with the young Q in this one, where 007 says: "This must be a joke" I found funny the change for a very young character and he does it very well, in the following movies he will have more presence.

There was a version of this script where they went to Scotland, but it's not Kincaid who meets them there; it's Sean Connery and the previous Bonds. The reveal would have been that "James Bond - OO7" is a title that's been held by many different people over the years.
@rickardroach90758 ай бұрын
Really? I thought they were just thinking of casting Connery as Kincaid? 🤔

PS...Andrew Bond and Monique Delacroix (James bonds parents) die in a climbing accident in France when he's only 11years old..he then goes to live with his aunty(dad's sister) in the original Ian Fleming novels.

Looks like everyone got this lovely lady up to speed on the M’s and Q’s and Moneypenny. As usual great reaction and 2 more Daniel Craig movies to go. Sadly the best 2 villains of this series are over because Mads Mickelson and Bardem were classic Bond villains, especially Bardem who was a creepy genius. Best movie of this series but The Spy Who Loved Me is an absolute Bond masterpiece and is my personal favorite. Also all the songs to the 70’s Bond films are amazing. Hope she gets to those at some point in the future, if not I appreciate her work on these Bond movies.

This film is a masterpiece. Not just in the Bond series, but as a stand alone film amongst every movie. I feel the same about 'The Dark Knight' in the Batman films.

I’m late to the party on this! Judi Dench was diagnosed with macular degeneration when this was made which affects her vision. She struggles to read scripts and hence her daughter/friends/colleagues read for her and being a true “ac-tor”, she learns it pdq. Hence why she hasn’t done many productions lately. Plus when Skyfall went into production in November 2011, she was 76 and even she knew she couldn’t go on much longer in the role. The producers told of their plans to kill her M (Olivia Mansfield. Olivia ironically being Judith “Judi” Dench’s middle name) and although upset, she accepted it knowing it wouldn’t be realisitic to keep going at her age. The Aston Martin shoot was done in the early hours of her 77th birthday on 9th December 2011. She was presented with a birthday cake. She features in Spectre in a pre-recorded message to Bond plus a portrait of her in No Time To Die. In Skyfall, she had more screen time in this film alone than original Q, Desmond Llewellyn, did in seventeen films combined.

At time this was filmed Dame Judi Dench was 77 and they felt they wanted to revamp the franchise after the dissapointment of Quantum of Solace did so poorly. Dame Judi did 17 years on Bond 7 movies and a cameo in 2015 for Spectre . She was one of the oldest actors to play this role, Bernard Lee died at 73, Robert Brown was 67/68 when he made Licence to KIll (his last Bond film). It was a good time for here to leave and on a high as Skyfall was a roaring sucess

So “M” isn’t a name or a character, it’s the title of a position in MI6 just like “Q” who was the young nerdy Quartermaster. “M” stands for “Missions” which is the nickname for the title of “Head of the Department of Missions” of MI6. That’s the person in charge of MI6. When they were referring to the transition in this movie, they were talking about Judy Dench retiring as “M” or Mission Director of MI6 and Mallory taking over as Director.

Can we agree... the best looking film in the franchise? I believe the only one ever nominated for best cinematography (oscar).

There was a hint in the credits that forshadowed M's fate in the movie. When the name of Judi Dench appears in the credits, it appears in front of a gravestone, indicating that she would die in the film.

Did you recognize Albert Finney as Kincaid? He's done a bunch of movies that seem up your alley, including two of the Bourne movies, and Ocean's 12. But one of my favorites is Looker (1981). As a production of the '80's, it's dated. But it was written and directed by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park, Coma, Andromeda Strain, Westworld, ER) and the story has become more relevant in recent years.

This is definitely my favorite Daniel Craig era Bond. Though having M dyeing broke my heart. She was a part of the Bond movies for so long, it's hard to see her go... 😥 Also watching my beloved DB5 getting blown up pissed me off. Thank God they fixed it later, i've loved that car for the last 40 years, it will always be THE Bond car.

In a rare misstep for photography, when he landed the motorcycle inside the building and swerved to make the turn, there were a several tire marks visible on the floor where they had repeated the stunt. P.S. They are saying “mum.” It is the English variant of “mom.” You will hear children use “mummie.” But in this context it is also kind of an English cross between mom and ma’am. It is considered a familiar honorific, accorded to older female figures with authority or standing.

3:05 I can see that Coby enjoys this jump. No wonder because that was a 900km jump from top of the bridge (shot in Istanbul) down to top of the train (continues in Adana). The scenes shot in Istanbul - Turkiye they destroyed many rooftop tiles and a FREAKING historical and beautiful window in Grand Bazaar. (it is our fault to let them shoot those scenes there honestly) but yeah.

My one piece of advice for anyone watching movies is: leave your preconceived notions at the door. If you’re “certain” you “know” something, especially when it comes to a series of films, you’ll just end up wallowing in denial because you can’t allow yourself to believe what you’re seeing on screen. Sure, have some doubt that you might be getting fooled but don’t make it your credo.
@joeellis32818 ай бұрын
The Aston Martin made its first appearance in Goldfinger, one of the best in the series with arguably the best Bond, Sean Connery. I think you'd enjoy going back and reacting to the earlier films.
