Thanks for this video, informative as ever👍🏼. I love the idea of the old Hammer films being 'novelised', it's not something I was aware of before today so I'll be seeking those books out for sure. I also love western novels so I'm looking forward to hearing your verdict on the Kurtz trilogy. BTW I think Ed missed a trick by not naming the third novel in the series 'Boon Rides Again'😂 Cheers👍🏼

Great haul and you and MJ are very tactical in your acquisitions. As far as Birnam Wood that is a tip-in or stepback cover. The stepback with the peep-hole is called a die-cut or keyhole stepback. With all the money publishers are putting into painted spines and such I'm really hoping the keyhole comes back into style.

Ah fascinating, thank you! I really hope they come back too, by far the best kind of paperback

Hooray for Ed Kurtz. I followed him for a while when he was on social media, but he backed away. Boon (the character, not the story--she works in an office, not somewhere on a range!) is based on his partner, Gam, herself a wonderful writer. She wrote a book of short work called glass slipper dreams, shattered. I'll read Boon eventually. A Wind of Knives is pretty good. Bleed and A Wind of Knives are both out of print, so you're lucky to have copies! :)

The publisher apparently insisted that all of that series of Hammer Horror novelisations should be updated to modern times. Guy Adams told me that. He wrote several, but would have much preferred to keep them in period.

I've read A Wind of Knives and really enjoyed it. I have The Rib From Which I Remake The World, but haven't read it yet. He has two others you'd probably be interested in, but have gone out of print: The Ranger, a horror movie novelization and Dead Trash: A Zombie Exploitation Quadruple Feature, a book about two bad mamas who escape prison and fight zombies with a biker gang.

I suspect Dead Trash may be THE perfect recommendation for Olly, and I'm guessing it's going straight onto his To Buy After His Read What You Own Challenge!

I would say buying for others explicitly to get around the challenge rules is CHEATING. However, I have exemptions for buddy or group reads, so I wouldn’t have been cheating under the same circumstances.

If it's spelled Kiowa, I have heard it pronounced KEE-uh-wuh, basically. Though I've not spoken to a member of the tribe to verify that. 😉

Yep, you cheated. As an example, if you learned how to drive, passed the test and everything and then immediately went out and drove through a red light, that's referred to as "defeating the signal"!!! You should at least get a ticket. Now you need to read 103 of your own books to complete your challenge. Or you can hire yourself a lawyer and fight the ticket in traffic court. 😅

@@CriminOllyBlogI just finished reading the book butcher by Joyce Carol Oates. Have you read this book? It seems like something you would read and review. I would like to hear your thoughts. I actually listened to it. It was super interesting and sometimes very hard to listen to.
