If I need to wet sand a guitar with existing screw holes, I plug them with wax. Makes a good seal, but still cleans up easy when you're done. Plus, the screws go in super easy when you get to assembly!

I'm so glad that this project is back and rolling again after a long hiatus and bless you it is very nearly almost "there" notwithstanding the all-important final push. I do have a question that I don't remember you addressing in the videos though maybe someone has in comments but (I feel I need a dramatic pause)..... I suspect that any resonance the body had has been radically affected by the disruption of structure which may or may not be a good thing and there are schools of thought on whether this is even a consideration in an electric guitar but I'd be interested in your feelings on this, Ben, and of course far more crucially, Jasmine's???!!

In the future you might consider mixing resin with silver powder. A friend of mine works at the cabinet making company where they would do this process with copper and then paint it onto window frames to make the window frames look copper. You would paint The copper resin mixture on and then once it is dry you can polish it to give it a shine.

@averagejoe45212 жыл бұрын
Here is an idea for you. I think it would look great and much better to add another hex hole in the top of the headstock in the middle of the round area where the Custom Body decal is usually located by Fender. This would tie together the whole design from bottom to top and make the head stock look less Fender, and more Crimson. As always. You are an inspiration, thank you. Keep up the great builds.
@gtr19522 жыл бұрын
Hey Ben, when taping the fretboard, have you ever considered running a long tape strip along the edge of the fretboard, partially on the neck, on both sides? Then when you put the strip over the top both ends rest on/stick to the side tape. Then when you remove the tape, just pull on the horizontal tape and everything comes off at once! No fiddling around with each piece of tape!! Hope I said that right. You need to loose the nut knobs too, knurled barrel knobs look great. Cheers, --gary

I don't know if you guys can get it but in the US we have a paint called EZ-Slide Graphite paint. I use it for shielding paint. If you buff this paint once it's dry it looks like shiny metal. It gives a really similar effect to rub-n-buff. You're solution is really cool.

Looks great! I was thinking that the holes had a bit too sharp of an edge when you started sanding. For filling holes when wet sanding, may I suggest using wax. It will fill the holes and provide lubrication for the screws when assembling. When you were saying the silver paint wasn't as shiny as you would like, I was also thinking rub 'n buff also.

@esalehtismaki2 жыл бұрын
Planning the work order is essential for making each step of the work as smooth as possible. That is kinda missed in these freehand projects, where you get ideas as you go. But if I did find myself wet sanding an already drilled surface, I would use wax to keep water out of the holes. You can easily get the scratch plate off without removing strings, as the cavity is so open.. It just slides off.
