Ben, I don't watch as some kind of "critic", I watch because you are a Master Guitar Builder and do some of the nicest work that one will see anywhere! That you forgot a part such as the bridge "nut", no biggie my friend! I'm amazed at how you turned this seemingly impossible build into a solid, working guitar! Bravo!

Ben, I have been watching sense the beginning. In fact, I have been watching my KZbin so hard that my wife say just wait, the next episode will be up when it’s ready. You have taken a stroke of genius and made it into pure awesomeness. I am thrilled I am entered in to win it even if it’s just 9 entries. I can’t wait to see what crazy thing you do next. Ps. I say brass control knob to match the brass knub on the back

For the pencil trick, I use two pencils. One shaved flat and one shaved flat then raised with a sanded down popsicle stick glued an inch back from the tip... First marks the lowest spot, second is raised and makes a nice line to carve the nut down to. Also, staggered tuners seem to be in the wrong order. :)

Almost perfect. Should have had one of the spaces where the pot is located completely filled from pickup position back to the rear. Rout it out and hide the wiring. Having the knob sticking out the way it does is unique. I like it. Similar to a Mod wheel on a keyboard. Roll it with the heel of your thumb.

Take the time and laminate pieces of the dark and light woods and make a beautiful knob with gradually widening markings.
@NachoManRandySandwich6 жыл бұрын
Ben if you put little bars of copper round the edge of the control knob it would act as a grip and look cool too. I would also glue several pieces of the two types of wood used in the body to give the look of pizza slices instead of that one single piece. I used the excess wood from when I made a multi piece neck before to do something similar. It looks really good

I don't know nearly as much about guitars as I thought I did if the setup shown at 18:15 has something wrong with it. "Staggered tuners?" Looks exactly right to me. If the tuners were in a different order the strings would end up at awkward angles, wouldn't they? What would be the advantage of that?
@RickP6546 жыл бұрын

At least not until it was pointed out that he did make a foolish mistake like that haha. I’m glad I’m not the only one that makes mistakes

Okay - if I were to build one based on the lessons learned here, I think I would incorporate the volume control into one of those maple wedges. That would look cleaner, hide the solder joints (face, pots are not pretty), and make any repairs less risky. That said, I love the overall concept. Received my first-ever Crimson order in the mail a week ago. Hope I win! :-)
@johne71006 жыл бұрын
Really beautiful guitar, one to be proud of - I don't know how you can part with it. FWIW I think the control knob would look better in ebony with a plain cylindrical profile. In passing, a string height gauge is excellent for adjusting bandsaw-blade tension using the deflection method.

So, it didn't break in a million pieces, the bridge didn't fly up to the nut end (even when held by two small screws), it didn't hum, it didn't seem to lack sustain. Bit of a non-event really :-) Seriously, well done. Can't wait to see and hear it with a full set-up and a different control knob.

That is a genuine concept guitar. If you make more with that technique, they will be shaped more to design. This is freehand. One day it may be worth a lot. It does grow on you. Once you get over the strangeness, the lines are quite attractive. It should have a juicy feedback. Plenty of surfaces of different sizes and none too large. Too often the importance of feedback is forgotten.
@esa0626 жыл бұрын
What would some Leo Fender's concept guitar from mid 40's be worth? You don't know how much someone would pay for a one-off Crimson PoC guitar in a few decades. Can't compare it to a mass produced Fender that you like.

Yeah, I was wondering if you were going to polish that nut. Glad to see you didnt forget. Just as an aside, I'm quite disappointed that the video was edited to remove the first twang of the strings on the guitar. It was always a special moment in guitar builds to hear the first notes warbling out from a newly made guitar, kind of like the cry of a newborn baby. Also, that control knob should have been flanged like a wingnut so that you could push down on it to adjust the volume.
@CrimsonCustomGuitars6 жыл бұрын
