From Digital Sputnik: "Human vision is most sensitive to green wavelenghts and does not see as well into red and blue, but the camera sees better into reds and blues than human eyes and we have tuned the lights based on CMOS sensor technology instead of human eyes."

I would argue against this....Seeing the bayer sensor photosites pattern as used in the vast majority of camera sensors, we can see how green has been prioritized to establish a representation of what the camera sees close to the eye. But again, seeing how the Sony F65, which didn't have such an array and didn't prioritize any primary color, this array might not be the best. I guess we'll see in the future!

Would love your input. I have these lights since they came out. Stoppes using them a long while ago because they basicaly look green on the image. I tended to use them without diffusion though. I love the idea of these lights perhaps just not the light itself. But no i saw them being used on the mandalorian again so it had me thinking i should dust them off and give them another chance. Have you had the same problem ? Maybe only when used without diffusion ? Please het back to me! Thanks

skintones looks great, seems like an amazing light! any problems with shadows as it's a multisource led? thanks for the video Rubidium!

Just picked up 3 x DS-1s after seeing this video and researching how they used them on the movie "Dune". I also bought your full course catalog which has some great content. The light is very distance sensitive due to its size. I am curious how far you were sitting from it when you shot this.

Appreciate it! Maybe a couple of feet but the DS1 have a good throw due to their lenses on the LED.

Looks like a great light. For that price though, could get (2) Kino Select 30s. The Select 30s are hands down my favorite light to use in every situation. The DS is super powerful, and appears to have great skin tones. I assume the power draw is not that much, like other LEDs. Thanks for recommending this light, hope to rent it one day.

They kinos are a workhorse. Definitely check out the Sputnik’s at NAB or Cinegear. They’re kind of their own thing.

Rubidium, keep up the great work. I'm on the other hand, personally, don't mind at all when you show more expensive gear. I actually preffer you showing more of high end-ish products. It gives an idea of what to strive for.

Could DS1s replace a Skypanel s60 or Litepanels gemini in terms of talking head lighting
@Crimsonengine5 жыл бұрын
They do sell soft boxes for them that will give you an equivalent sized source. To see if it compares in terms of output once it’s diffused I’d have to do some tests. My guess would be no. S60 is a lot higher wattage.

If the folks from Digital Sputnik are listening and reading the comments, they'll probably notice a recurring trend "OMG, we would love these...but that price!" So it's currently out of the question for possibly 80% of your viewers. I'm guessing the rental houses and gaffers looking to replace aging HMI's might be the target market....but IF they can get a sub $1000 unit out there with similar power and features, it's going to sell like bottled water before a hurricane. Right, now, we can drool and dream. But my clients don't really care what lumens I throw at them, so long as they're lumens.

Oh my gosh, Rubidium! What are you doing?! I can't afford this, and I need my kidneys! Drool... I do notice your skin tones are a little different from what I remember; perhaps more orange with this light? Also, how noisy and hot does this thing get? Timely though. I'm shopping for a lighting kit... but I think the accessories to these are out of my price range. :D

Thanks! It does have a fan but its pretty quiet. I get it thought - its a specialized light for high end applications.

@@Crimsonengine You're welcome. No worries. Maybe it's not high end. I'm just poor end. ;D Ha!

Upon seeing this on B&H, I immediately came here to learn more about it. Thanks for the info. Btw... the bokeh behind you looks kind of like a swastika.
