"Cringe" PvP Build Tier List | Season 23

This is a joke vid. I'm not singling any player out. This is a Bungie balance problem, not a player preference problem. All builds take skill to use in the right context. It's just that there could exist a better balancing scheme to make the game more dynamic and fun.
I'll add clarity to explanations here if needed.
i could've explained "any bow" section better.
TLDR: noob gets mileage for existing bc of lobby balancing. I don't get the luxury of sitting in the back with a bow to win games since my blueberries won't be effective slayers. I have to have a very specific bow build to keep up defeat volume. I don't always have said build on hand, like if I play Titan.

I honestly Love this style of content. Gaining valuable insight into builds some would consider absurd or abstruse at first glance is actually very important to me. Aside from personally having a few more builds to try out, posting this will also undoubtedly bring attention to outliers that could use tuning. After all: if it's not causing any trouble to a relevant margin of players, why bother fixing it?

Interesting comment. Seems to me like you're telling people in large words to Get Good Forehead. Having knowledge of what to use against and looking at other Peeples loadouts is difficult. Being able to do what Cammy does.... not many can do it. I'm sure many have used a Cammy loadout and failed! HA HA

A slight note for correction - Disruption Break doesn't buff Stasis or Strand damage, only Kinetic - so it doesn't buff the damage for Cryo. I have seen players running it, but it does not provide any benefit. That being said, Waveframes are strong enough that it doesn't seem to matter - may save you a perk slot in the future

I feel like disruption break is hit and miss with the solar launcher. Didnt play it much but had it on against a gl gamer yesterday. Felt like i only had one time where I saw 105? and the rest were 70

It's funny how it doesn't even matter, it's still just as cringe. Even if disruption break worked with stasis, you would still have to headshot to kill in one bullet. Still cringe either way lol

With disruption break wave frames, you also must still have the weapon in your hand when it breaks the shield of the enemy or it wont apply kinetic vulnerability to them. So many people running explosive personality swap too quick after firing and lose disruption break. Also, DB buffs melee damage, which is really nice for a rush in build where you one-two combo with a wave frame at your feet then a melee

Anyone else remember how oppressive Spectral Blade was when it launched? Insane lunge range, damage reduction, it lasted FOREVER (iirc getting kills added 2 seconds to it). On smaller maps it was an automatic 7th Column machine.

Gwisin bug for those x2 team wipes in a single super on small maps. Arc week 2019 for Bottom Striker was also some huge nonsense and in some regard Knockout Aspect still carries over an absurd amount of strength that bottom class had.

I've been using Gemini Jester with Strand Clone and I find it to be much much better than Wormhusk with Clone. Taking away people's radar and putting up a fake ping feels really strong. Add threadling nades and thread of evolution into the equation and you've got a pretty potent build specifically in 3v3.

Unpopular Opinion: These builds, although very annoying to most - creates diversity in PvP. Not saying that no change is needed, just appreciating these builds while I still can (agree about what you said about bows just to clarify because people might see this as me defending it just because I use one despite saying multiple times they justify a range damage and aim assist fall off nerf along side oathkeepers). There's also unaccounted factors such as Wish Ender; although extremely easy and powerful to use it's extremely boring to play with and against. Double GL RoF; Very hard to pilot but can be one of the best meta loadouts out there. So I respect people who uses them especially the new lights who try their best in my team to win even a single game of trials in the most effective way they can do it. I start to appreciate these things ever since I started playing with and against these players, they have a place in the game. Like fusion rifles for example, regardless of a player's skill they are very effective at punishing you for "carelessness" and they always remind me to be more cautious when I play aggressively instead of just diving in to a group of 3 players willy nilly or being greedy. So in a way these things acts like an ecosystem in PvP, kinda like a card game that has multiple meta decks that can counter but not dominate one another instead of constant mirror matches. But that's just me.

I don’t think that’s THAT unpopular of an opinion. Destiny combines a lot of genres. I also tend to view builds as a card deck or fighting game character roster. To me the important part is ‘relative’ power balance regarding ease of execution vs amount of reward. Best way I can put it is if we tier listed competitive loadouts, the C or D tier is where IMO the gameplay is most dynamic and fun. I can watch a VOD back and be excited to play more to improve. Doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a game mode for high powered builds. Second part to this is my boredom that comes with piloting the best decks. Players typically don’t want to participate back.

@@cammycakesgaming I relate to this a lot, playing card games can be very boring when the power scale is too far and beyond that it lacks some sort of skill check. For example, there's a format in Hearthstone where the top decks are insanely good to the point where it can be piloted using a bot on ladder to gain ranks overnight. There should definitely be a skill to reward ratio but not scaled on these 2 factors alone but also on the effectiveness of their counters.

It's weird looking back to a moment when Cammy suggested Sanguine Alchemy upon the return of Trials in Worthy, people took it in the completely wrong direction and didn't listen to follow up commentary where Cammy said it had limitations on certain maps and against certain teams, then Bungie inevitably panicked and killed it for PVP, and then 3rd person and emote peeking became an infinitely more free tool to find people. In a lot of ways I honestly don't even think original Sanguine would be *that* bad in a current game when it's still a sacrifice and chilling in a Rift solely for information can only get you so far.

As a glaive main, glaives are actually an amazing counter to being suspended. Especially rapid fire glaives. Glaive projectile accuracy isn’t affected by being suspended, so you can just blast them while they’re still coming out of the suspend animation.

I feel so called out for some of these. lol Definitely agree with the Hand canon flinch. I'd like it if Bungie either toned down the flinch or made it harder for the Canon user to hit their shots. I feel the bullet bending from Bows could also take a hit in particular. Lost count the number of times I let an arrow loose, realized I missed, Just for the Arrow to make a 90 degree turn to hit my opponent already behind a wall anyway. Feels unfair to get hit by it and feels unfair landing it.

Try using floating Ticuus Divination. The main problem you have with the bow is that people hide from the second shot. Catching people off guard / getting weird angles helps ensure that you can hit that second shot before they hide or if they are hiding behind something short. In sixes you can easily wipe a team with the bow.

If you want a non strand aggressive bow build try using Trinity Ghoul on Arc Hunter (Flowstate+Lethal Current+Combination Blow) with Liars Handshake and blink. Liars Handshake kills will heal you and one shot most anything in pvp. Also when you hit someone with a Lethal Current melee the jolt chain and explosion make everyone nearby one shot to a Trinity Chain. Or you can blink in, Trinity a group then melee them and everyone nearby dies, then you can dodge for the extra melee range and oneshot anyone that didn't die to the lightning storm you just caused. Also if you run reaper with better already/recuperation, orbs of power will heal you on top of liars handshake healing you. Also I recommend using jolting Arc bolt grenades. This along with being able to kill people around corners has made this my top pvp build for me.

i have gone up against this. it is pretty nasty on maps where you can float off an edge and see multiple lanes or cap points at once. ngl a floating ticcu lock will bring out my wishender or jotun for a couple rounds

I actually experienced my first "DIMventory" player a couple weekends ago in trials... swapping from a kinetic sniper to wish ender after he ran out of ammo. Of course we ran him over just to punish him for his cringe playstyle but dear god i hate it.

Just use 2 unflinching mods for your primary have 70 resistance and 60 or 70 stability and flitch doesn't exist. Mnk don't care about stability controller does. I am a mnk main and I run stability for the no flinch not even explosive payload can flitch me off heads... Tested it meny times I'll sit in a well and take 2 people auto flitch and still 3 tap with hc and still beam with autos or any gun.. Now you know have fun, also why controller tends to feel they don't take as much flinch because they don't because they tend to have more stability

13:54 it feels so good to see my main build in the S tier, before the thorn buff I used to use sturm, and I got like 4k kills on that thing in 2 seasons. I farmed more hatemail using this build than I did with any other build (even shatterdive+chaperone at it's peak).

Being a bow main since Forsaken, other than Le Monarque, I've never seen Bows be an issue to play against unless they're hotswapping into a Hand Cannon. Bows were never really a major issue until they got hitscan on perfect draw. It made a lot of bows, especially Lightweights, feel super nice - but unfortunately made ones like Wish Ender also feel just as good which suddenly became a problem and people started noticing bows more and more because of it.

@@WhyUReadingThis While there's tons of AA on virtually everything in this game, it doesn't help how Bows benefit from a diet-lite secondary AA effect by way of the Accuracy stat. My guess is if Bungie completely nuked the efficacy and reworked deep programmed stuff for AA and Accuracy on Bows , I imagine people will have a fit that they could be unplayable or just wildly inconsistent especially on sticks.

I played the original SSS+ cringe build with Citans, revoker+sidearm, and middle tree sentinel during Trials launch. Still one of my favourites moments in Destiny, it was the first time a “cringe/meme build” clicked and I found myself using it over the meta.

I'm just saying it was the first time a build clicked for me, and it wasn't what everyone was using, slot for slot.

Crazy how broken shatterdive used to be but is only in S+. I dont mean that its ranked low just that soo many other builds have been more insane. Granted shatterdive was OP because it was literally just play stasis hunter. There was nothing else needed. It could be ran with stompees or frostees or really any exotic. This is also an insane thing... As a titan main I honestly hope shatterdive/glacier grenades gets a minor buff to make them okay again. I dont want old shatterdive but I would love for it to be able to kill within like a meter of the center of the crystal. Basically I want it to be sort of meta. Just meta enough where most hunters are using it because its soo easy to bait and punish. People who didn't play back then will struggle at first but those of us that know how to press the S key for 1 second will do well.

Really enjoyed the brief hall of fame discussion, you could make a whole video around that and highlight absolutely dumb clips from viewers who might still have some. My two cents, and I’m not a content creator so pay no attention: with regard to “more like this”, I think it maybe useful for a once a season kind of update. I'd like to add turrets to that list, specifically Child of the old gods and stasis turret. Both of those are such a pain to deal with because I dedicate a full mag just to destroy them while I get hit by them. And once I commit to getting rid of them, that's the other teams que to push in for a free kill. And they have such a large affect radius that it's difficult to walk away from them without being horribly out of position. I'd really like them to be easily destroyable. 5 auto shots MAX. They would still be useful as they require you to deal with them, but now the enemy has to be more proactive and play faster.

For me personally, i never found bows annoying since im good with bows, so i know how to fight people worse on a bow than me. the only times i hate bows is the stupid hotswap stuff they can do. Theres no reason they should have high handling. Also, i agree, maybe give them an ammo count back, but make it so they have to collect the arrows that get used. Buuut, idk if bungie can code that well enough to be consistent

Some really good points and insights. Happy to see that there are some pretty decent counters for most of those builds which means we have come a long way for balancing. The biggest pain point for me is the threading worm husk build. You can be a shit player but still make plays because of your class ability, which the hunter dodge itself has been a huge pain point for me as a warlock main.

Not trying to cause any trouble, but something that has helped me is playing with the thing that I struggle against or dislike. It gives good insight into the mindset of a certain playstyle, and makes you better at countering it. For instance, as a Hunter main (and other Hunter mains can probably agree), when an enemy Hunter dodges it's not really a big deal to me, and I work around it. In fact, I don't really notice when a Hunter dodges anymore, unless they're using something that triggers off of dodge, like Threaded Specter, Gemini Jesters, Wormhusk, etc. The only exception being when it's a pc player, and they swing their mouse around with gamblers dodge, making their trajectory almost unreadable.

As a console player, fusions were the number one thing that drove me out of the game last January and started me on OW2. I’ve gotten better at playing cover and beating them, but man are they so easy to use and punish any sort of aggressive play, which I love doing on strand hunter, literally genji but destiny 2

I’ve been using bows in PvP since Europa: I’ve got an Biting Winds with 1139 kills, Raconteur 575, Point of Stag 315, Strident Whistle 280, Leviathan’s Breath 105, and Le Monarque 137. These are pretty low because I’ve only been playing one season a year and have been burnt out on PvP metas. It blew my mind when I came back this season and a friend told me that bows were meta. I didnt believe until I got into my first Crucible match and there were multiple people using bows. Typically, it was a single other bow user in a match and a 50/50 if they were using Lemon. I personally, am so used to bows that it doesnt bother me, hc’s are still way more annoying. I do think threadlings are way too strong.

@@bannedmann4469 If you miss the first shot against a hand cannon, you lose the duel. You have to retreat or risk a peek, and there are so many HC rolls out there than can kill you in 3-taps. You have to hit your first shot and then a second shot, one of them being a headshot to win. A HC can get you dead in about 2 bow shots, 1.5 honestly. To go along with perk combos, there are just way more GOOD exotic HCs that can really do well in PvP. Bows don't really get the same kind of legendary perks or exotic goodness that HCs get so there's a disparity in power there. The only good bows have been Lemon/Wishend/and the Strand Bow. Wishender is kind of meh for me (i don't even have it in my vault). Lemon is good but it pretty much just eliminates the need for a headshot so I never really used it because it's kind of boring. I haven't gotten the new Bow to try but I play pretty off meta in normal Crucible anyway. Bows are my second most used Primary in PvP, second to HCs, then it's Auto and Sidearms, a 100 kill difference between them. As someone who's been using bows for so long, you get tired of seeing the exact same 3 handcannons killing you every game.

I honestly want a locked load-out system in trials. With the only way to change is to wait every 2 rounds, where both teams are granted 20 seconds before the round starts to switch gear and exotic armor without penalty. Honestly would make the game more strategic.

While these may be cringe, it makes the game very fun. As someone above the average player skill level, I’d be pretty bored if everything was grey. This is the long standing paradox of destiny, vanilla was grey and people hated it, now we have alot of strong movement and strong weapon options/combos which can be pretty crazy. It’s bungies job to reign in everything while keeping it fun. Hopefully a dev sees this

I just wanna say Thank You Cammy for mentioning snipers in this list. I think my clanmates are sick of me mentioning it. I'm glad to see a content creator actually mention it. Good sniper players just lead to boring unfun matches. It absolutely takes real skill to be good with a sniper but there's no interesting counter to it. The only way to deal with it is slow and boring and miles from fun. And really, a lot of the slow gameplay in places like Trials that Bungie has tried a few times to kill (peaking with swords/emotes, waiting for supers, etc) can be traced in part or wholly back to snipers. Because most of those strategies are what you adopt to deal with a game where you can't ever exist in the open on a map without maybe dying instantly.

Lol, interesting counters... there are no interesting counters to anything. I never had a real problem about snipers as a sniper main, mostly mnk you just get used too hitbox in destiny being huge.. smg hits head from chest. Auto hit head from stomach and 2 feet from the sky pulse having stupid hitbox also there not a gun in this game that takes skill. had buddys who top 1% in csg and they try destiny all you hear is laughing 90% of my shots are way off but still landing... I slowed down panda scrims and without the aim assist In destiny 50% would be a miss. It just the truth we had a hc with gunshot and slickers the people who 3 taps everyone may get a kill without reloading. So you take a sniper and give it the average hitbox in destiny and put it an a actual good player hands someone who actually tend to miss by a tiny amount in csg or none aim assist games snipers are cake walk just like all the guns in destiny

I 100% agree with this vid. Any time I match a team of bows/threadings/gl swapping etc it immediately makes the game way less fun to play becuase it makes me feel like the only way I can have fun is to switch to the same thing. It removes the ability to use other creative loadouts because you will just get destroyed if you use it.
