Trauma at an earlier age has the ability to permanently alter the brain. It shifts your whole development as a person. Neuroplasticity is a thing, people with PTSD often can improve quite a lot. But when your brain is still forming, the changes can be more... fundamental. Terrible way to describe it. A better way might be to say that the pattern of the brain's adaptations to different things can be altered, leading a person to process a lot of things in ways that are harder for a 'normal' brained person to really grasp. It's hard for people like that to communicate their feelings. Their feelings are complex and confusing. A whole lot of people who have certain levels of trauma as kids wind up with lifelong disorders and development issues. It's a whole different way of experiencing life, or just being a person. With certain people it is necessary to adjust away from your usual cues for things like 'maturity'. Things that appear a certain way in most other people, may show up in different ways in them.
